Successful launches of the Get to Know Anxiety campaign

beyondblue launched the Get to Know Anxiety campaign with events in Sydney and Melbourne.

In Melbourne, beyondblue Chairman Jeff Kennett and Anxiety Strategy Manager Dr Nicole Highet discussed the research behind the campaign, anxiety statistics, and where to from here.

Television crews covered the event and interviewed Jeff and Nicole. Megan, Damien and Candice who shared their real-life stories were also interviewed by journalists.

At the event in Sydney, beyondblue CEO Kate Carnell spoke about the research and statistics behind the campaign.

beyondblue Ambassador Garry McDonald and blogger/author Kerri Sackville discussed their personal experience of anxiety and how they stay well.

The centrepiece of the Get to Know Anxiety campaign is a short film starring Australian-born and internationally-acclaimed actor Ben Mendelsohn.

Shown at both events, the film shows Ben as the personification of anxiety, where he introduces anxiety’s symptoms and challenges audiences to do something about it now that they recognise the signs.

beyondblue research has found that most people don’t know the symptoms of anxiety, yet it is more common than depression.

More than two million people in Australia experience anxiety at any one time and many of those people would not be aware they have an anxiety condition that is treatable.
