Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Emotional Wellbeing Communications Strategy

In October 2012, beyondblue, in association with the Lowitja Institute, hosted a National Communities Workshop and Indigenous Roundtable. These events and subsequent consultations provided valuable input to the development of a Communications Strategy that aims to:

  1. Identify communication methods that work best with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  2. Communicate key messages through the development and dissemination of culturally relevant resources and materials
  3. Address stigmas around mental health literacy within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Preliminary outcomes from the Roundtable include working with State/Territory jurisdictional peak bodies and stakeholders to implement and evaluate the Strategy as well as the use of personal, family and community stories to increase awareness, reduce stigma and encourage culturally appropriate help seeking. Stay tuned for key activities and resources!
