beyondblue Victorian Centre of Excellence in Depression, Anxiety and Related Disorders

Overview

The beyondblue Victorian Centre of Excellence (bbVCoE) in Depression, Anxiety and Related Disorders - a collaborative initiative by beyondblue: the national depression initiative and the Victorian Government - is a major research funding program in Victoria. bbVCoE encourages innovative, high-quality research that aims to enhance early intervention, treatment and pathways to quality care for depression, anxiety and related disorders.

History and funding

bbVCoE was launched on 31 July 2002 by the then Victorian Minister for Community Services and Housing, The Hon. Bronwyn Pike MP. The Centre is funded as part of the Victorian Government's commitment to beyondblue with more than $11.8 million allocated to research grants to date.

What research does bbVCoE fund?

Overall, bbVCoE provides support to research that:

• Demonstrates commitment to translation of research findings to practice. 
• Focuses on early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of depression, anxiety and related disorders. 
• Explores pathways to care in the context of the broader Australian health care system. 
• Addresses gaps in knowledge about what type of interventions is effective (relapse prevention, early intervention, treatment) for various population groups and a range of settings (such as community, primary care, workplace, schools).

Research Grants

Each year bbVCoE identifies priorities for the research grant program. Applications supported by this program must demonstrate a high relevance to at least one of the bbVCoE research priorities. The research team must have sufficient expertise to meet the project outcomes and should adopt a multidisciplinary approach. National and international collaborations are also encouraged.

Through the bbVCoE program, beyondblue supports the participation of consumers and / or carers in the design and conduct of research.

All applications undergo a rigorous assessment process to ensure the funded project is of high quality and relevance to the priorities of bbVCoE and beyondblue objectives.

bbVCoE grant rounds are advertised in March/April each year in media and on this website.
