The National Roadshow arrived in the Central and North West Queensland Medicare Local region in September, 2014.
First stop was the Westech Field Days in Barcaldine. The big blue bus and Beyond Blue team spent September 9 and 10 chatting with farmers and families and providing resources and advice around mental health and keeping well.
The bus then hit the road and headed further inland, arriving in Mt Isa on Friday 12 September for a visit to the R62 site of Mt Isa Mines and a barbecue with staff.
The following morning the bus was up early to greet miners at the George Fisher site before parking at Bunnings Mt Isa for a chat n’ check. Dozens of locals popped by to pick up free resources and have a free blood pressure check by staff from the Mt Isa Central Amcal Pharmacy, who were on hand to help promote awareness around National Stroke Week.
That afternoon the bus headed to the Ernest Henry mine site in Cloncurry. Again, miners were provided with free Beyond Blue information about depression, anxiety and staying well.
On Monday 15 September the Roadshow arrived in Normanton. Beyond Blue speaker Bronwyn Collins presented to students at Normanton State School about the importance of maintaining good mental health and how to help a friend. That afternoon the bus set up at Normanton Town Hall for a free community barbecue.
The team then headed into the Far North Queensland Medicare Local region.
Thanks to the wonderful communities who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome! Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
