Beyond Blue arrived in the vast Country North SA Medicare Local (CNSAML) region on 14 April 2014, with a knowledge and network session held with mental health professionals in Port Augusta.
The bus then hit the road to Whyalla – where the outback meets the sea. On 15 April, the bus parked at Whyalla Hospital and provided information materials to staff and visitors.
Later that evening, the Roadshow team and staff from CNSAML attended a barbecue at the Joan Gibbons Neighbourhood Centre – a wonderful community hub offering education classes, meals, social activities and a comfortable drop-in space for locals.
The following day, the bus parked at Westland Shopping Centre for the afternoon. Beyond Blue and Medicare Local staff spoke to many residents about mental health and collected numerous mental health pledges.
The Roadshow returned to the Country North SA Medicare Local region on its way back from the Northern Territory in July.
On Friday 19 July the big blue bus visited the Coober Pedy Youth Shed for a 'blue day'. Around 40 kids took part in the day, making blue lamingtons and cupcakes and doing decorative stone paintings. That afternoon, the bus and Roadshow team visited the Umoona Tjutagku Health Service Aboriginal Corporation Mens Shed and cooked up a free barbecue. Last stop for the day was the Italo Australian Miners Club.
The following morning, the Roadshow set up at Coober Pedy IGA to chat with shoppers about mental health and staying well.
Thanks to all those who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome! Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund and WorkCoverSA for their support.
