The National Roadshow rolled into the Far North Queensland Medicare Local region in September 2014.
First stop was Croydon for a free community breakfast with the Royal Flying Doctor Service on 17 September. Dozens of local residents came out to see what the big blue bus was all about and have a chat.
The following day the bus visited Mt Surprise as it headed east towards the coast. The team set up with the RFDS on Gulf Development Road to provide free Beyond Blue resources to people passing by.
On Friday 19 September the National Roadshow arrived in Cairns. First stop was the Worklink office for a free community barbecue. Australian Senator representing Queensland Jan McLucas joined about 60 people who came by to pick up resources and enjoy a free sausage sizzle.
That evening, the bus headed along to the Palm Cove Night Markets. With a meeting of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in town, security was visibly heightened but didn’t stop people enjoying the balmy beachside markets.
On Saturday the team set up at the Esplanade Market in Cairns and chatted to almost 100 people. A very special Beyond Blue supporter, Mark Eldridge, spent the day with the team. Mark is on a 16,000km, 42 day motorbike ride around Australia and is aiming to raise $42,000km for Beyond Blue!
The visit to Far North Queensland Medicare Local region wrapped up with a morning at the Port Douglas Sunday Markets, with hundreds of people picking up a Beyond Blue wristband and chatting to the team.
The bus then headed into the Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local region.
Thanks to the wonderful communities who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome! Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
