The big blue bus arrived in the Goulburn Valley region in May 2015.
First stop was Cobram on Tuesday 12 May for a free community barbecue at Woolworths Cobram. Members of the Cobram Men’s Shed came down for the morning to help cook up the sausage sizzle and many shoppers and locals stopped for a chat and to pick up free info about mental health and staying well.
That afternoon, the bus ducked up to Finley to spend the lunch period with students at Finley High School. Students took part in a colourful canvas painting – putting down their thoughts on what keeps them happy, healthy and well.
On 13 May the team set up at the IGA in Yarrawonga for the morning. Despite the chilly start many people dropped by to say hello and check out the bus. The Roadshow then headed to Numurkah for a free community afternoon tea.
On Thursday 14 May the bus rolled into Tatura for a free morning tea before visiting the Maude Street Mall in Shepparton for a free lunchtime barbecue. Lots of locals dropped by to learn more about the support available for anxiety and depression and to make a mental health pledge.
On Friday, more than 50 local business owners and managers gathered in Shepparton for a free breakfast presentation looking at mental health in the workplace. Organised by Beyond Blue, the Shepparton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and WorkSafe Victoria, attendees learned about the Heads Up initiative, the benefits of creating a mentally healthy workplace, and the simple, practical actions they can take to promote mental health in their workplaces.
Following the breakfast, the team headed to the Violet Town Community Complex for a free community morning tea.
The National Roadshow returned to the region later in May, attending the Marysville Community Market on Sunday 24 May and stopping Yea’s High Street that afternoon. The bus then visited Broadford on the afternoon of Monday 25 May, setting up outside the library on High Street. On Tuesday 26 May the team hosted a free community morning tea in Seymour at the Woolworths.
Thanks to all those who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome across the region. Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
