The big blue bus arrived in the Hunter region in December 2014.

First stop was the Taree Saleyards. On Monday 8 December the Roadshow team attended the weekly cattle sales to provide free Beyond Blue resources to buyers and sellers. NSW Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead also popped by to lend his support.

The bus then headed west for Gloucester and a free community barbecue in Billabong Park. About 60 people came along to chat to Beyond Blue staff and pick up free resources. The following morning Gloucester High School received a visit from the bus and a presentation from Beyond Blue’s Gerard Fox about depression and anxiety and staying well.

On 9 December the bus set up at the Lake Macquarie City Farmers Night Market in Speers Point Park. Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the markets and festive atmosphere.

On Thursday 11 December the team set up a stand at Glendale Shopping Centre for the day. In the morning, Event Cinemas kindly invited staff and volunteers to attend its regular seniors movie session and provide free Beyond Blue information showbags to moviegoers.

The following day, the team dropped by the Drayton mine for morning tea on the way out to Singleton. Mine management and staff took the opportunity to pick up free Beyond Blue resources and find out about available support. The bus then headed to Singleton Library for a free community barbecue in the afternoon.

The visit to the Hunter region wrapped up in Newcastle on 13 December with a Men’s Shed Shindig and free community barbecue at Customs House Plaza. The Australian Men’s Shed Association and several Men’s Sheds from the Hunter Region, including members from Mayfield Men’s Shed, Blue Gum Hills Men’s Shed, Cardiff District Men's Shed, Raymond Terrace Men’s Shed, Wangi Men's Shed, Maitland Community Men’s Shed and Cessnock Men’s Shed came together to showcase their work to the community.

Thanks to all the wonderful communities who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome and all those who supported our visit! Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
