Inner West Sydney

The National Roadshow visited Newtown, Campsie, Glebe, Lakemba and Leichhardt (in the Inner West Sydney Medicare Local region) in August, 2014.

On Tuesday 12 August the big blue bus attended a free community barbecue at the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre. Dozens of people dropped by to pick up free Beyond Blue resources, chat to Beyond Blue and Inner West Sydney Medicare Local staff, and enjoy a free barbecue.

The following day the team served tea and coffee at Anzac Park in Campsie and joined in the daily Tai Chi session.

On Thursday 14 August the bus visited The University of Sydney where the Beyond Blue and Medicare Local team spoke to nearly 200 students and staff. Thanks to the Humanitarian Programs for providing the delicious blue cupcakes!

That afternoon the bus dropped into Lakemba where Beyond Blue and Medicare Local staff spent a couple of hours at the youth drop-in centre at Lakemba Library before attending a multicultural health expo and supper at the Senior Citizen’s Centre.

On Friday 15 August the bus stopped in Leichhardt for a morning tea and healthy ageing presentation at Leichhardt Town Hall. The visit to the Inner West Sydney Medicare Local wrapped up with a stall at Glebe Markets on Saturday 16 August.

While in Sydney in August, the bus also visited Bexley, Hurstville and Carlton in the South Eastern Sydney Medicare Local region. Earlier in the year, the Roadshow visited Eastern Sydney Medicare Local and Western Sydney Medicare Local and in January 2015, the bus returned to cover Northern Sydney, Sydney North Shore and Beaches and South Western Sydney ML regions.

Thanks to Inner West Sydney Medicare Local and the wonderful communities who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome! Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
