The big blue bus visited WA’s beautiful Pilbara and Kimberley regions in June, 2014.
Onslow was the first stop in the Pilbara, with a free community barbecue at the Onslow Sports Club on Wednesday 11 June. More than 50 locals enjoyed the social night out and the opportunity to chat with Beyond Blue staff and receive free information material.
Next stop on the Roadshow route was Karratha. The Beyond Blue team visited Karratha Senior High School and gave a presentation to hundreds of students about the importance of good mental health and looking out for friends.
Following the school visit on 13 June, the bus headed to Karratha Centro shopping centre for a free barbecue cooked up by the Apex Club of Karratha. OzHelp Foundation was also on hand to chat to men about their health as part of Men’s Health Week.
On Saturday 14 June the bus drove out to Roebourne for a free community breakfast attended by about 40 people.
South Hedland was the next stop. On Monday 16 June a free community barbecue was held at Centenary Park attracting more than 50 people.
The team rolled into Broome on Wednesday 18 June and met with local health professionals for a knowledge and network session and overview of Beyond Blue’s programs and services.
The next morning, Broome Senior High School students received a visit and presentation about maintaining good mental health and wellbeing.
On Friday 20 June the bus set up at Town Beach in Broome for a free community barbecue. That evening the team attended a youth disco night at the drop-in centre in conjunction with PCYC.
The next day, the bus attended the West Kimberley Football League (WKFL) Blue Round at Peter Haynes Oval. Hundreds of spectators attended the footy, with the best-on-ground player for each match receiving a voucher for a free pair of Steel Blue blue boots!
The Roadshow trip to the Pilbara and Kimberley concluded in Kununurra on 25 and 26 June with a school visit and chat 'n check at Kununurra Shopping Centre.
