The big blue bus visited the Lower Murray Medicare Local region in late April and early May 2015.
First stop was Sea Lake on 30 April, with the team setting up in Best Street to provide the opportunity for locals to come down and pick up free information about mental health and staying well.
That afternoon, the bus headed to Ouyen. Friendly – and furry – locals welcomed the team to town, with a brief goat-sitting stint brightening up the afternoon!
The next day, the bus set up near the IGA in Dareton before heading across to Wentworth. A free barbecue was cooked up in Darling Street and students from Wentworth Public School came down to see the big blue bus.
The bus then headed up to Broken Hill before coming back down to Red Cliffs for the Red Cliffs Country Market on 3 May.
On Monday 4 May, the team set up at Mildura Central Shopping Centre for the morning. Many shoppers dropped by to pick up free Beyond Blue information and to make a mental health pledge. The team then spent the afternoon visiting students at Chaffey Secondary College and Ranfurly Primary School in Mildura. Students heard about the importance of looking after their mental health and took part in activities such as a canvas painting to capture the things that keep them healthy, happy and well.
The following morning, the bus arrived in Robinvale and set up at Caix Square. The visit to the Lower Murray region finished that afternoon with a stop in Balranald’s Market Street.
Thanks to all those who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome across the region. Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
