Northern Sydney

The big blue bus returned to Sydney in January 2015.

First stop in the Northern Sydney Medicare Local region was the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital on Friday 16 January. Staff, patients and visitors took the opportunity to pick up free information about mental health and staying well and chat to the Beyond Blue team and local service providers.

The next day, Hornsby Mall hosted the National Roadshow from 11am to 3pm. Many shoppers stopped by the bus to make a mental health pledge and take on the Beyond Blue team in a game of giant jenga.

On Monday 19 January, the Roadshow team set up in Thornleigh – first at the McDonald’s Thornleigh store and then at Bunnings Thornleigh. Around 200 people dropped by the bus at Bunnings to enjoy a free sausage sizzle and find out more about Beyond Blue programs and services.

The following day, the team hit Eastwood Plaza. Hundreds of people came along to chat to staff and pick up free resources.

On Wednesday 21 January it was an early start at Macquarie Park. The bus parked in Byfield Street to capture the business crowds and blue iced cupcakes enticed some workers away from their desks to learn more about mental health and where to get support.

The team returned to Macquarie Park the following day to visit Ivanhoe Estate where a free barbecue was put on for residents. Following the barbecue, the bus headed to Ryde Hospital where it set up for the afternoon.

Last stop in the Northern Sydney Medicare Local region was the Ku-ring-gai Fitness and Aquatic Centre on Sunday 25 January. It was a perfect day to spend at a pool and many people dropped by the bus on their way in for a dip.

Thanks to Northern Sydney Medicare Local and all the wonderful services who provided support, as well as the communities who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome! Thanks also to  Medibank Community Fund  for their support.
