The big blue bus returned to Sydney in August 2014 to visit Bexley, Hurstville and Carlton (in the South Eastern Sydney Medicare Local region).
On Friday 8 August the National Roadshow team visited Sydney Technical High School and spoke to students about the importance of maintaining good mental health and how to help a friend. An early morning information session was also held for teachers prior to classes beginning.
The following day, the team set up within Westfield Shopping Centre Hurstville. More than 150 people stopped by to pick up free Beyond Blue information about depression and anxiety and to find out about local support services from South Eastern Sydney Medicare Local staff.
Many also made a mental health pledge – a written commitment or goal to achieve or maintain good mental health. The pledges that are being collected along the journey will be posted back to individuals at the conclusion of the National Roadshow.
On Sunday 10 August the bus made a special appearance at City2Surf, parking near the finish line at Bondi Beach to cheer on Beyond Blue supporters and fundraisers in the world’s largest run.
On 12 August the big blue bus attended Kogarah Community Services after school program at Carlton South Public School. The Roadshow team took part in fun activities with the 70 students and a free family barbecue was held, with Beyond Blue information available for parents to take home.
While in Sydney in August, the bus also visited the Inner West Sydney Medicare Local suburbs of Newtown, Campsie, Glebe, Lakemba and Leichhardt. Earlier in the year, the Roadshow visited Eastern Sydney and Western Sydney. In January 2015, the bus returned to cover Northern Sydney, Sydney North Shore and Beaches and South Western Sydney Medicare Local regions.
