The National Roadshow arrived in the Southern NSW Medicare Local region in February.
First stop for the big blue bus was Batemans Bay High School. Hundreds of students listened to a presentation from Beyond Blue’s Bron Collins about the importance of looking after their mental health and how to help a friend.
After a detour through the Murrumbidgee district, the team returned to the region via Crookwell. Crookwell High School received an information presentation on 19 February and students took home free information about mental health and staying well. The bus then headed to Spring Street Crookwell where the community came along to chat to the Beyond Blue team, make a mental health pledge and enjoy a free sausage sizzle thanks to the Crookwell Lions Club.
The big blue bus dropped by the Astor Hotel in Goulburn that evening to wish four local bands and Beyond Blue Ambassador Mark Gable good luck ahead of their fundraising gig ‘Goulburn Rocks for Charity’. The guys raised more than $2000 on the night for Beyond Blue!
The following day, hundreds of people came down to Goulburn’s Belmore Park for a free barbecue breakfast cooked up by the Rotary Club. Staff from NRMA Goulburn also came along to present a giant cheque after collecting more than $1000 in donations at their branch.
It was then off to Moruya for the Moruya Country Market on Saturday 21 February. Plenty of shoppers at the fresh, local and handmade produce market stopped by to say hello and pick up free resources.
The Bega Show hosted the bus on Sunday 22 February, with show-goers stopping by to get their face painted at the bus and to pick up free information showbags.
The visit to Southern NSW wrapped up on 23 February with a free barbecue at the Bombala RSL Club. More than 200 school students and members of the community came along to find out more about depression, anxiety and staying well and to enjoy a sausage sizzle cooked up by the Bombala Lions Club.
Thanks to all those who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome. Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
