Western Sydney

The Beyond Blue National Roadshow spent several days in Western Sydney in early March 2014, holding activities in Blacktown, Baulkham Hills and Mount Druitt.

On 6 and 7 March, the bus set up at Westpoint Blacktown. Hundreds of shoppers stopped to chat with Beyond Blue staff and health professionals from WentWest, the Western Sydney Medicare Local.

On the afternoon of 7 March, the bus headed up to Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains to thank the organisers of the Sanderson Conroy Potter Cup Charity Golf Day. The annual event – in memory of three young men who took their lives – raised more than $20,000 for Beyond Blue. More than 100 golfers took part in the day, which has also become an important conversation starter around mental health and wellbeing.

On 9 March, the Roadshow attended a youth event organised by The Hills Leo Club (the youth arm of Lions Clubs International) at Baulkham Hills. A skate comp, live music and photo booth entertained the crowds and Beyond Blue speaker Robbie McGuinness (from Stop. Think. Respect. campaign) shared his story of hope, recovery and resilience.

The following day, Robbie spoke to locals gathered at the Mt Druitt Community Hub. A free morning tea was also held.

Thanks to the hundreds of people who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome, WentWest for their involvement, and the many supporters of the Wentworth Falls fundraiser. Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
