Project brief
This research aims to test the effectiveness of a brief, culturally adapted, psychological intervention to treat depression and co-morbid illness in remote Indigenous primary healthcare settings. The study will introduce screening and coordinated follow-up and treatment, and will evaluate the implementation of this best practice pathway. The results of the study will become the best available to guide the management of depression and co-morbid physical illness and substance misuse in high risk Indigenous youth, perinatal women and adults.
The study will build on the relationships and knowledge learned from the Australian Integrated Mental Health Initiative in the Northern Territory which, through participatory action research, has developed mental health screening tools and treatment approaches with Aboriginal Mental Health Workers.
