We are seeking 30 Foundation Members to help champion a new section on the Beyond Blue online peer support forums focused on Multicultural Experiences.
blueVoices members from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds are invited to show their interest in becoming a Multicultural Champion - Foundation Member.
People from CALD backgrounds, particularly those from non-English speaking backgrounds, are less likely to access mental health services.
Stigma, lack of information in appropriate and accessible formats, and poor communication and cultural differences between clients and clinicians can all be major barriers to accessing mental health services.
This new section on the forum will be launched in mid-November with the aim to reduce stigma, encourage action, share experiences and support our CALD community.
Foundation Members will actively participate in discussions and starting up new ones on topics of interest. Topics may include:
- Stigma and taboo – discussing experiences of stigma and taboos associated with mental health issues in your communities, family, work etc
- Your migration story – sharing your (or your family’s) story of migration to Australia, your feelings and experiences
- Living in a new country – adjusting to a new country and how you have coped
- Daily wellbeing – what strategies you have in place to manage your stress
Thank you for your interest in this role. Applications have now closed but if you are interested in becoming a Multicultural Champion - Founding Member or have any questions, please contact Hayfa Kaassamani.
