    Hi everyone!

That sounds fantastic Gems! Thank you for telling us about Hanukkah and I am so sorry if I assumed by asking about Christmas! I remember someone once told me about Dreidles also (I am not sure if you spell it like that)!

The elections would have been a very stressful time gems! Even here I was waiting with baited breath, that's for sure!

Sarahbelle, all the best with your move! I hope all is going well!

    Hello.

So lovely to hear how we celebrate special religious and cultural events which bring loved ones together. I find it fascinating that there is such rich culture and opportunity to learn from one another. Even adopt some new customs.

I agree Missep. I have never seen people in Australia so interested in the US elections before. Gems I found the system difficult to understand with college votes but think I've got it now.

Gem's wishing you a great couple of weeks before returning home. I am sure your family are counting the hours.

Missep, oh my this house selling thing is certaintly interesting. I will let you know what happens.

    Take care, stay safe.

    Sarahbelle.

    Hey guys!

No worries at all missep, always happy to share a little bit about Hanukkah! I always take "happy Christmas" to mean "happy holidays" and I never get offended by it because it's just people wishing well and spreading cheer, and most people do of course celebrate Christmas!

I was thinking during the election how complicated it all was and how even MORE inscrutable it must be to someone on the outside! You are quite right Sarahbelle that the electoral college system is incredibly arcane and I have a hard time understanding it/explaining it myself. Luckily we can put all that behind us for another 4 years.

A warm week ahead here in Sydney! Have you guys been getting to the beach or outside at all ?

    Best,

    Gems

    Hi gems!

Thank you for being so understanding! I love learning about all cultures and religions :) What kind of food do you tend to have around the holidays?

I love the sun! I really feel like a sunflower when it's sunny and bright. I think I don't get enough Vitamin D usually so I think summer will help with that! Have you been to the beach recently?

Yes! I moved house recently and now I live about as far as I can run from the beach, so I've been ending my jogs there with a swim :) I actually don't do too well in the heat (I'm from a colder part of the US originally), so I've already busted out the fan for my room.

How are things going with your house Sarahbelle?

    Hello,

Slowly getting ready to put the house on the market. Not doing work to it as a new owner would most probably like to make their own changes. Years worth of goodies to go through. Hopefully up for sale in a few weeks.

So nice to have the lovely weather back with us after a cold and long lockdown.

Gems the beach sounds wonderful. Keep on enjoying your little while left in Australia

Missep at Chrismas we always have a curry on the table. My dad was from a tropical island so that has always been one of our traditions we will always keep.

What special celebration food do you share?

Only 3 more working weeks for me this year. Yay.

Sending lots of warm wishes .

    Sarahbelle. 😎😎😎😎

    Hi guys!

I am really loving this warm weather. Similar to you gems, but rather I'm from a very cold part of Canada! Ottawa to be exact. Now I only visit when it's warm haha.

Sarahbelle that is such an interesting tradition! What kind of curry? I love Japanese curry myself! It's so different to normal curry.

We tend to have turkey, seasoned peas, carrots, potatoes! This year I might make Mac and cheese as well.

    I'm hungry now!

I hope you guys are having a great weekend!

Missep I never knew you were from Canada. You and Gems have most probably celebrated some white Holiday Seasons along the way. That would be amazing.

My dad was from the Seychelles.

The curry is traditionally fish or chicken. It is a light curry with a creole influence. As mum was a bush girl we also have the Aussie fare usually cold meats and salads. Plumb pudding is a must.

Yum, I too am hungry now.

So lovely to share our traditions.

    Sarahbelle.

That's awesome Sarahbelle! I have to say the idea of a warm, sunny December holiday season is one of the strangest parts of Australian life to me and not one I'm sure I'd ever really get used to, no matter how long I lived here! I've had plenty of snowy holidays (and also plenty where there was just mud and slush lol), and I always wondered what people in the Southern hemisphere thought of all the songs about snow and keeping warm by the fire.

I love that Aussies adjust the foods accordingly, like cold salads etc. Curry also sounds delicious! That's such a cool heritage to honor. The tradition for American Jews is to eat chinese food on Christmas because those are the only places open! Traditionally we also make brisket and onions, along with latkes (fried potato and onion pancakes).

    I'm getting hungry now too...

    Gems

    Hi guys!
This is slowly changing to a food appreciation post haha!

Sarahbelle that sounds so interesting! What a mix of cultures! Creole food sounds so interesting. Have you had gumbo before?

Gems I love that! I didn't know it was a tradition to eat Chinese food on Christmas! I would love that haha. I have had brisket and latkes before, sooooooo yum.

I also find a warm Christmas to be strange (but wonderful in it's own way). There is something magical about a snowy white Christmas though!

    Hi all.

It is always so interesting finding out about how and what people celebrate and how food is so important and central to it all.

Writing my post the other day inspired me to make a yummy curry just for the sake of it, it was pretty good even if I say so myself.

Another thing I do for Christmas is make fruit cakes, decorate them and give them to special people.

Gems, I have been thinking that you will be flying off soon - it has been so nice chatting with you and getting to know you along the way. I am not sure how it works with this forum but I really do hope you can continue to share with us. Thankyou for sooooo much for all the hope you have inspired in me!!! (Missep too) .

Missep looks like we two get to have that hot, sunny beach Christmas, whilst Gems hopefully gets the gorgeous White Holiday Season from a fairy tale - although from the sounds of it Missep you might also love to see a little snowfall. Imagine that is Australia - what a treat!!

Take care and be in touch soon.

    Sarahbelle.

    Hi all,

Sarahbelle, you're only too right– I am heading home on Monday morning and unfortunately I recently learned that BB policy restricts forum use to within Australia, so for now this is goodbye. I have plans to come back to Australia as soon as covid permits, and resume posting here on the forums.

It's been so great to get to know you and my fellow Community Champion missep, and this is certainly my longest-running and most favourite thread. I'll miss checking in on you guys, though I trust you have great summers ahead.

Sarahbelle, good luck with your house and everything else. I'm so glad that the forums in general and this thread in particular were of help to you; they certainly were to me during what's been a very difficult 7 months since your first post kicked it all off. I've really appreciated having this mini-community to come back to over and over again. Missep, congratulations again on your engagement, and pre-congratulations on your wedding! All the best to you as well :)

    Very warmly,

    Gems

Gems you will be missed. Blessings to you for a safe trip and wonderful reunion with those you love.

One day we may be able to chat again and share together.

You, Missep and myself have been like the Three Muskateers supporting one another and I believe this will be a friendship we will always fondly remember.

I hope Missep and I can keep the campfire burning and save a special place for you.

    Much love and thanks.

    Your friend Sarahbelle 😊

    Hello Everyone.

Thanks Blonde Guy for you words of kindness. It has been such a tough year living through the pandemic and strict lockdown.

So good tha Vic and the rest of Australia are doing so well.

Well Gem's would be home now. It is good news Gem's can still be in touch.

Missep I would love to experience a White Christmas. The idea of it sounds so beautiful. Each year I take a Christmas photo of my dog just for fun. Last year she had antlers and christmas glasses. So cute. A bit silly i know but good fun. Do you do this with your little pug?

    Enjoy a lovely weekend ahead.

Sarahbelle that sounds absolutely adorable, I definitely want to try that with my pug! I recently got socks for her and it is so adorable!

I am definitely loving this warmer weather and sunnier days. I feel quite happy when it's sunny outside!

    Hello.

Wow how busy it has been, school commitments and packing up a house.

Missep yes the sunny weather does give a new energy and spring in our step.

Christmas is nearly upon us. Where has the time gone and such a crazy year.

I think your little pug would look so cute in little socks.

I think the world is a much kinder and happier place with the love of our animal fur babies.

    Take care.

It really must have been so busy! Look at you though, so proud of you and how far you have come along and how much you have achieved.

How are things in Melbourne at the moment?

Been such a big year. Thankyou for your kind words.

I will check in soon to see you are okay.

    Hi Sarahbelle!

    Thank you so much!

It has been a little bit stressful but I guess since we have been through this before at least we are prepared this time and know what the outcomes will look like.

I walked outside today to get groceries and saw that so many people were still so close together and not wearing masks so I really hope that people are more careful. At least so many people are showing up to testing sites which I am very grateful for.

If I don't speak to you before then, I hope you have an awesome Christmas!

    Hi Sarahbelle!

    Happy new year!

Thank you for your kind words! One thing I have realised from the tightening of restrictions is that I am definitely saving money by not eating at restaurants at the moment. That's definitely a perk! I'm really hoping everyone follows the rules and that NSW will get back to what it was before this happened.

    Hi Sarahbelle!

That is so sweet that you remembered about my engagement!

We are really thinking about eloping or doing a very small wedding. When everything gets better I really want to focus on travelling with my partner because we looooove travelling and we miss it so much.

I will cross my fingers for you that your house sells! Please keep me updated regarding that.

    Hi Missep.

Eloping might be an interesting way of being married.

My girlfriend and her husband eloped and then on their return had a party.

They married in a little town in Italy, Assissi.

Do what makes you most happy. After all the marriage belongs to you and your partner.

Oh my selling a house is hard work. Some offers but not there yet.

    How is work going?

I am back on Tuesday next week.

Had a lovely break just seeing friends, walking my dog and doing fun things.

Hope your little pug is well.

    Be happy.

    Hi Sarahbelle!

It's so great to hear from you!

You are in Victoria is that right? How is the situation there at the moment?

I completely agree, more and more I am realising that I have to do what makes me happy!

Getting married in Italy sounds amazing, that's so lucky that she did it then!

Work has been very stressful but I have managed to have 7 months under my belt! I am actually leaving soon though as I am going to do a bit of a career shift, kind of secret at the moment but very exciting!

Thank you for thinking about my pug! How is your little buddy?
