I feel like a clutz. Here I am a tradie myself. I can strip any industrial sewing machine apart and put it back together, even design and build camping gear and anything like that from scratch but give me a motor and it's like ? Hubby is no good with stuff like that. Funny part is probably next year we start putting a weekend out land we have in Weddin Shire..

Hi Geoff Thanks for the advice. A short update.Kickboards now in shed Dishwasher sitting outside. Was interesting removing connections as there wasn't room tp pull them through without tipping shelf on its side to give more space. Can't remove shelf without undoing U bend for sink. Fridge it sitting in Laundry for time being & cupboards are emptied as my husband was worried about the weight while we are working around the legs. We have removed 3/4 of tiles & cement sheet from centre of room but haven't tackled tiles right beside cupboards yet. I rang my son offering him to join the 'smashing party' I hoped he would take up the offer because he is very handy but he has a lot of work overdue on his own house so didn't feel I should pressure him.

hello, please don't feel bad, it sound as though you have your own speciality's and NO one is good at every thing its all practice. how did you go with it??? I hope you got it sorted. I can see the ear to ear smile of the little fella boring around the yard in my mind.

be sure to keep the chain lube'd and the air filter clean and it should go for a long time with out hassle. if you ever need help let me know and il get back to you as soon as I can.

hi Bethie, you are only undermining your ability and yes it's quite easy to dismantle anything small and then put it back together but when a motor is concerned I've given up.

My first car I bought was a Morris 1100 so I thought it would be great to pull the motor out, which I did 3 times to fix the gear box, after that no more work on any car, that's why I'm a rubber spanner.

Thanks Geoff, Still finishing removing tiles. Majority gone but the remaining are stubborn & fiddly under cupboards & skirting boards.Yesterday was slow as I was already tired so I couldn't keep going long without breaks. Son back at work. He didn't come on monday as his kids were too feral to trust them at my house. Those grandkids are lovely when good but when bad they are horrid leaving a trail of destruction behind them.

hi Elizabeth, put googles on and wear a mask so you can hit the tiles on the top to try and break them, eventually they will come loose.

Not sure if adhesive is hard to remove Geoff.

I just painted the ceiling in my bathroom after sanding it and their are a couple of places where the new paint is peeling off the old paint....grrr

I dont really care if I have to sand the whole of the bathroom ceiling (again) but why do I have new paint peeling off old paint in a couple of places?

hi Paul, I can say this happened to me many times, but one thing for certain is that takes off any loose paint and tells you where are the spots that need scraping back.

It happened when I was painting loungerooms, kitchens and hallways all joined together, so the ceiling was just one, but painters who first painted 'glass plaster' ceilings needed to paint them with a special undercoat, not just the ordinary ceiling paint, otherwise the paint will come off when you are repainting it and that's exactly what happened on many occasions.

It was so annoying so what I had to do was put a small coat of wet plaster I had mixed up just to fill the area where the paint came off, then sand it and start to paint the whole ceiling again.

If it's your own place and in the bathroom you may decide not to do it, but I had to because it was a rental house/unit and would look terrible being such a large area (loungeroom/kitchen/hallway) and wouldn't be paid.

The new paint is peeling off the old paint because it isn't stuck to the previous paint, or with 'glass plaster' it hasn't stuck to the original plaster.

hi Paul, do you have a fan in the bathroom because the paint may become loose right above the shower as all the steam from hot water goes that way first of all.

Do you know if the paint is oil based (need to cleaned by turbs) or water based, in order to tell get a rag and soak one corner in methylated spirits and rub on paint, if the cloth shows paint on it straight away then the paint is water based, but if it was Berger Paint and 27 years old, I'm positive it would be oil based paint.

If you do have a fan in the bathroom then the ceiling can be painted with acrylic paint, but if you want to paint over oil-based paint then you will need an undercoat designed to cover oil-based paint so that water-based paint can be used, your paint store will tell you.

I appreciate your help on this one. I have had an exhaust fan installed since the house was built and the flaking is next to the fan and the light bulb housing...interesting.....hmmmm. I have checked for ceiling leaks but its dry as a bone up there.

I tried the cloth with some metho and the paint showed color straight away.

The paint was applied in 1990 when the house was built. The ensuite also has some peeling too.....and an exhaust fan...

Golly....My tiny brain cant get a grip of this lol. I will stick to being a tech head instead ;-)

hi Paul, having a ceiling fan in the bathroom is a must but it has to be cleaned, otherwise the steam will be drawn towards it, but if it is not clean then the steam will overflow onto the ceiling next to it making it flake off.

If you wash the ceiling any loose paint will tend to bubble, indicating that it is loose and needs to be scraped off, and if you want to you can then fill where the paint has been scraped off with wet plaster mix, then sanded to be painted again.

If you choose to paint the ceiling with oil based paint then it will take longer for it to peel off, but I would get a cheap roller to use and then throw it away after it's been used, because to clean it with turps will cost a bit of money and also be a hassle to clean it.

Thanks heaps for your help with the peeling paint. I do clean my exhaust fans frequently and I will be taking your advice on washing the ceiling (with a squeegee) to expose any flaky areas of paint :-)

I have a 6x6 garage....with no rear wall....Everytime I move anything there is a cockroach....ewwwwwww which would suggest an infestation. Instead of using surface spray on everything.....does everyone think that a 'bomb' type of insect killer would do the trick on a still day without any wind?

I cant stand bugs....grrr.....and ewwwwww

hi Paul, there is an outside bomb you can buy which people use when they are having BBQs, they should cope with all the creepy crawlies, perhaps get a lizard or even a snake. lol Geoff.

I let 2 x 'bombs' off in the garage and I didnt see any bodies of bugs...just heaps of bird poo

I dont have a brick wall at the back of my garage....it is open....and I used the insecticide bomb on a still night with no wind. The ants are back already..

know what your saying paul , birds come in my shed too and often nest so l have to put up with screaming little ones for a few mths in late spring, it's quite funny.

And the mum and dad swooping over my head in the garage as they come and go. Last year while working l looked up and one parent and 3 babies were all sitting on the edge of the nest watching me work.

Geoff l bought my first ever bench grinder today , can't believe l finally got around to it. little ripper l've needed one for years. You wouldn't believe some of the ridiculous improvising l've done over the years just trying to grind things. It's just one of those things l just kept forgetting to get.

hi Randomx, bench grinders are great, but angle grinders are one of the worst hand tools to do damage to anyone, actually one of my sons had a big angle grinder and almost lost his hand.

Paul those Indian Minors are a pain to get rid of, try putting a couple of plastic snakes around, on your roof or somewhere you can't trip over. Geoff.

Without hiring a compressor and a spray gun.......(that I have absolutely no idea how use)......can I use a spray can(s) to pain some bits of cream colorbond trim around my garage panel lift door?

Circa 2.4lm x 200mm x 2 pieces and 1 piece at 5.0lm x 200mm
