Got another movie for ya Croix. Don't be put off by the name which isn't as soppy/romantic as it sounds...called Lovesick....with Dudley Moore and a very young Elizabeth McGovern. (the mother in Downton Abbey).

Dudley plays a psychiatrist with wonderfully unique patients.... Has some cameo appearances by big names including Alec Guinness (as Sigmund Freud who Dudley imagines is giving him advice) and famous Director John Houston as Dudley's mentor.. I love this sweet film.

I have not seen that one, though of course I remember Dud from Beyond the Fringe to Arthur. so thanks for the recommendation. I'll wander down to my s/hand movie store in a few days and see if it is there .This one has both Alec Guinness and John Huston. Actually Huston is in one of my favorite noir detective films -Chinatown (Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway)- have you seen it?

No I was never attracted to seeing Chinatown. But speaking of Jack Nicolson.....two of my most favourite movies of all time....right up there...two of the best has Jack in them.....As Good As It Gets...everyone knows that one...with Helen Hunt and the gay neighbour and the little dog etc....brilliant lines, brilliant performances.

the other is Something's Gotta Give with Jack and Diane Keaton...about people falling in love in their mature years...it's brilliant too. I could, and have, watched them over and over!

I seem to get attached to movies in which either the plot, or the characters sort of mirror real situations I am going through...or real people in my life at the time. And when I re-watch them months or years later.....I always think of that person, or that time of my life!

I'd be lost without my collection of special DVDs of hard to get,very old, or out of print movies that mean so much to me. some years back someone recommended a particular website (in Australia) where I've managed to get the really "hard to find" ones...so I can have them forever.

That film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is most definitely a very great piece of cinema, from memory I think it won Academy Awards .

Unfortunately it is so good I can't watch it now, too many people I empathize with in most unhappy situations, and an institution out of hell.

Nevertheless probably Jacks' greatest part.

My first hospital admission someone thought it would be funny to bring that movie in on DVD . They played it on movie night - the result was very distessing .

The song that stands out to me today is Pink's What about us?

It's a song that makes a political statement so it's sad in a way. I mean, I'm not here to discuss politics- as this really isn't the right platform for it- but the song does reflect my current (somewhat) bleak view of the state of the world.

Evening Mardi...how nice to meet a new face. Croix has been waiting for someone new to join his merry throng of followers. I am never sure what to say here either, but so far he doesn't seem to mind what little tangents I veer off on.

I usually stick to recommending movies to him and he seems to like famous quotes from them as well as plays etc as much as I do.

Just ask him. Say "Hey Croix, what do you want to talk about here?". He is a lovely guy - very wise, handsome, mature, understanding, reasonable and tolerant. In fact if I had to choose any walrus to go for a walk along the beach with...it'd be him!......have a good night Mardi.....Moon S.

I'm very pleased to see you here. While I think of it please don't be put off by delays in answering any posts you make. This place is slow and I can be very very slow (old age privilege I guess:)

I started up this thread so people could have a chat about anything to do with the arts, that's books, music, movies, theater, TV, comics, paintings or anything else creative. I figured this place can be pretty heavy and people can use somewhere at times just to natter about things they enjoy.

I like books -a lot - and movies and umpteen other things. My books go from adventure like David Attenborought, though techno thrillers like Tom Clancy and end up with lots of science fiction. I'm reading a science fantasy called Heritage of Cyador tonight. The same applies to movies, I've seen an awful lot.

Now what sorts of things do you like? Can be anything at all.

I love cooking❤ and I absolutely love music. ....I sing all the time to music and always have my headphones on- many many favorite songs but I love Bryan Adams, a lot of 80's, I'm very sentimental so each song I like that I listen to I connect it to someone or something or it evokes a memory, happy or sad😊 that's me😊😊

I also love reading but dont always have the time for it😄

Beaches await you...just a short walk from my place - take your pick - all good for walking along, sitting on the foreshore under the waving palm trees gazing out at the ocean - going IN the ocean (we have both surfing and calm waters for oldies and little kids or for just floating and meditating in the peace)....throw some crumbs to the seagulls who will love you forever..let the cool sea breezes ripple your hair and wonder for the millionth time how the sky can be so blue.

Well I have been watching this thread from afar for some time, but havent contributed until now. My psych told me yesterday that as part of my efforts to 'nurture myself' during a current flare in ptsd symptoms, that I should include watching some feel-good movies.

Last night I watched "Blindside" on tele which I enjoyed, although I'd seen it before. It has Sandra Bullock in it and I think she won some award for the roll. She was very good in it, and it also fitted the definition of 'feel good'. So I consider I have now put a tick in one of my boxes of things to do for yesterday.

Anyway, I need more suggestions ...... and I will be watching out for likely candidates. Thanks in advance.

Sherie, that sounds a pretty good prescription, I've seen Ms Bullock in other things but not that one, it is a movie about American football if I remember. As for feel-good movies, yes. Have you watched Lion? That's about as feel-good as one can get. I thought it was great.

I've just managed to get a copy of Finding Dory, so I'll watch that this weekend

Films, or rather TV series. Who can go past Star Trek, the original series. Up late watching these DVD I received recently. I understand there is a new Star Trek series starting called Start Trek Discovery. No idea when we will see it on our screens unless you watch pay TV.

watch out for series coming back soon called This is Us- about triplets growing up each with their specific issues but all intertwined. excellent story lines, not too heavy and super feel good moments.

I tried watching that movie years ago but stopped as the theme triggered memories I had troubles with. Still it was a great film and I do like Morgan Freeman. One of his I enjoyed was Invictus, I think Sherie might enjoy that one as it is like another biographical sports drama like that one with Sandra Bullock she mentioned.

I'd not heard of This Is Us, just looked it up. Do you think it will be on free-to -air?
