It's from marcus aurelius. He was the roman empire's chief bro in the fight against the germanic tribes in northern europe. Basically think of the start to the movie Gladiator.. The old man that gets murdered lol

i like it because so much of what he was dealing with at that time on a personal level would've been very stressful... i mean he's in a war haha. Most of the stuff he writes comes out of adversity. I think there's hope for all of us when i think about it.... yes times can be sooo rough and we must weather the storms.. but hang in there and remember to disassociate yourself from as much of the adversity as you possibly can

“With every act of self-care your authentic self gets stronger, and the critical, fearful mind gets weaker. Every act of self-care is a powerful declaration: I am on my side, I am on my side, each day I am more and more on my own side.” -Susan Weiss Berry

It was luxuries like air conditioning that brought down the Roman Empire.
With air conditioning their windows were shut, they couldn't hear the
    barbarians coming.

The pen might not be mightier than the sword, but maybe the printing press was heavier than the siege weapon.

You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you.

Trud power is sitting back and observing everything with logic. True power is restraint.

If words control you that means everyone else can control you. Breathe and allow things to pass.

“A towel, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.”
