Good Morning! Any suggestions on what to do when you are feeling lonely, dull and depressed. I am at work and don't feel like talking to anyone (no one really cares)...

hmmm what constitutes older? I'm 43 and feeling pretty lonely myself. I'm not quite sure what to do about that either. But here's a good place to say hi at least :) What's happening? Hi T@40 :) Hi Tarragon :)

blondguy - sounds like quite the project! wow! I hope you're finding some enjoyment in it at least.

Doolhof - giggles at the thought of you wobbling, while wobbling the kraut lol

Hot one here today so I took my dog for an early swim. Then I realised my car is leaking coolant so I pretended to be a mechanic for 2 minutes before giving up. Oh the joys of being poor. Lucky I have a bike :)

    How's everyone's day going? Katy

funny about the coolant. Hello Katyonthehamsterwheel. I am 62 without family and sometimes it gets to me when the conversation is all about kids and grandchildren. I lost my son and it gets a bit tough..... I'm pretty tough, but sometimes....

Hey Tarragon. Yes, I can imagine that would be tough. Perhaps more so around this time of year? Sorry about your son. If you wanted to, you could make a post under "relationship and family issues" also. I"m not sure if that's something you want to do.

    Hi Tarragon,

Hope you are still around. You are more than welcome to chat here. Katy suggested you might like to start your own thread so you receive responses.

This BB Café thread is sometimes quite random and conversations jump all over the place.

Hope you may stay connected to the forum. I have found this to be a helpful place.

    Cheers from Dools

    Hi Tarragon,

Welcome to the Beyond Blue forums! Thanks for getting involved. It can understandably be a little confusing and overwhelming to begin with so thought is might be helpful to give you a link to our forum FAQ threads :) Here it is:

    https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/welcome-and-orientation/the-forum-faq-thread-#qpWMGXHzvGGEbv8AAOnT_A

As some other users have suggested, it could be helpful to you to start a thread of your own if there's something specific you want to discuss. Either way, we hope to keep hearing from you!

    Hi Everyone!

Hey Tarragon....The forums can sometimes be confusing as Sophie_M mentioned above. I really hope you can have a look around the forums and see how they work.....The Cafe is usually for light hearted banter for people that want a break from our problems and want to 'kick back' I do hope you can create your own thread topic about the pain you have been going through. You are not alone...

Hey T@40....How was your day? I hope it was good to you...Great to have you on the forums :-)

Hey CMF (Country Music Festival!) Thanks heaps for changing the coffee filters...You are a legend!

Hey Katy... Dools...Quirky.....Thankyou for the warm welcome and assistance you provided to Tarragon :-)

I have refilled the coffee jug....and there are some butternut snaps on the counter for everyone! I have also left out a few buckets of KFC for the hungry posters ;-)

    Hey Paul,

You really are great at including everyone all over the forum. Congratulations for that skill. Others do it very well also. Me, I use a collective "Everyone" as at times my mind does not cope with recognising individuals.

    We are all wired differently!

Hope the pot is still hot. Could do with a cuppa!

I have a question, if you could have anything you wanted for Christmas, what would it be?

    Cheers from Dools

Hi everyone. Hope you're all well. I fancy a cuppa and maybe that KFC is still edible!

Dools, in answer to your question - I'd love it if everyone could just have a day off from their troubles, whatever they might be. Just one nice soft gentle day :) Best, Katy

    Hi Paul and everyone.

My wish for Christmas would be to be able to enjoy myself. Not be an observer. Not thinking about the past. Being in the present moment.

The church I go to is having a Blue Christmas Service in a few days - it is for people to who are lonely, or do not find the joy in Christmas. If you google it you will find out what it means. And for me, it may help me to achieve that goal above.

And changing topic... if the KFC is off, I have been reading how long MacDonalds can last on the Internet. I won't spoil the surprise, you can look it up yourself. Don't think would be edible after year or 2 but they don't lose color or shape apparently!

    Hey Tim and Everyone!

Do people Google 'Blue Christmas Service'? ....just checking :-)

Hey Tim...I havent had McDonalds since 1979...I know how long a Big Mac will last on our kitchen counter without spoiling.......a very long time....which is very disturbing...ewww! KFC is still only an occasional treat yet they stopped using 'Palm Oil' about 10 years ago which is a smart move!

    Hello Tim, Paul and everyone..

I just googled blue Christmas as I’ve never heard of it before....It is really a beautiful service to have for those who have no joy in Christmas through missing their loved ones in heaven or for any other reasons that takes their joy away...

I rarely eat fast foods..a bit of a phobia of mine...So I have made some mild spicy floured and deep friend chicken for everyone..I’ll leave it on the coffee table...and also some freshly squeezed lemon juice added to soda water and a bucket of ice cubes....

My wish for Christmas is that my dil will have the best Christmas ever....and heaps of beautiful memories...

I hope you enjoy the food and drinks everyone..

    🤗..🐻🤗..Grandy..

I'm feeling a little lonely this year for some reason despite having my partner and his family to also share Xmas with. I'm not excited to have them also like I was last year. I think i know why and don't know how to change how I feel. I can't sleep despite being in bed over an hour.

Hey Grandy!....what a wonderful caring post not to mention preparing the yummy treats for everyone too!

Grandy has made some mild spicy floured and deep friend chicken for everyone..I’ll leave it on the coffee table...and also some freshly squeezed lemon juice added to soda water and a bucket of ice cubes....You are a legend Grandy x

Hey CMF....I feel the same as you and Tim....'not to be an observer and being able to enjoy myself' where Christmas is concerned... So true

Grandy....I dont have fast food that much.....Just letting you know my elderly mum is 89 and has a pizza every month and loves her KFC every few weeks as well...Her physical health is excellent too :-)

I know that Tim would be horrified (as he is very talented in the kitchen) yet everyone to their own I guess

    Happy Friday everyone!

    I'm pooped :-(

Hey Paul, I too will indulge in KFC once in a while. What is my hope may not match reality. If you are so busy for most of the year, and you then reflect on what you did or did not do, and think about what the next year might bring. It would be nice to turn off the mind sometimes.

Back to the Blue Christmas - I was speaking with someone today about the services and that not everyone finds joy at this time of year. He took a flyer from a friend - an elderly person with few if any friends and generally stuck in his home. If you are lonely and watching TV and you see people happy and smiling - a long way from their reality. The service then is a way of saying you are not alone. I have never been to one, but I will this year and who knows, it may help me with that hope above? You would think that with a family etc you might enjoy this time.

Daughter and I will be shopping tomorrow for present the mum/wife. But that is after a meeting and other stuff. So will I wear a mask or not ....? Nobody really knows.

    Paul,

I hope think link on Blue Christmas gets through...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Christmas_(holiday)

I am Anglican and as you know I have some issues and this is the first year we will be doing this service. The post from our event read...

"Blue Christmas: Thursday 19 December, 7:00pm. A service for all those who find Christmas a tough time; those who are sad, lonely, isolated or sick. The Christmas story is not just about joy and family. It speaks to the whole of our lives and our times of loneliness and lament as much as our times of abundant celebration. Come and gather for a Blue Christmas: a gentle service of quiet reflection."

As Grandy indicated not a lot of people know about it, though it helps when there are the people who are aware of and have some experience of their own (even if a relative or friend). I am not suggesting anyone here should look for one nearby their home. For myself, it is a chance to be myself.

The KFC is something that I might have one a month if that - the last time was last week because I had to go to go the chemist to get a script filled and didn't make any lunch that day either. And thank you for the compliment.

Breakfast idea for you... fried egg on toast, and covered with baked beans. Make sure you put the salt and pepper on egg before putting the baked beans on top - it acts as a sort of sauce for the egg! Yummy!

    Hi All

Hey Tim....Thankyou for the link you kindly provided to 'Blue Christmas'

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Christmas_(holiday)

Tim added...."Blue Christmas: Thursday 19 December, 7:00pm. A service for all those who find Christmas a tough time; those who are sad, lonely, isolated or sick. Tims Top Tips.....(an idea for Breakfast)...."fried egg on toast, and covered with baked beans. Make sure you put the salt and pepper on egg before putting the baked beans on top - it acts as a sort of sauce for the egg! Yum!"

Tim...Does it matter if its a fried or poached egg?....If you recommend fried I will do so! :-)
