    Hi Paws and everyone

We're all good here! Had a lovely day in the next big town yesterday, did shopping and a lovely walk in the park and great talk with a couple who own a vineyard here about climate change and what's it's doing to them..

All the countryside is so green it's just lovely.

I've reconnected with an old friend who lives on the coast but not where I was.. We worked together long ago.. We've been having great chats! I know Her children and we have another mutual friend too.

Got home the other day to find my lawn all mowed.. My neighbour across the street has a ride on and she said she's more than happy to do the lawn for me from now on.. How wonderful!!! I won't have to pay out all that money any more... I'll have to get her something really nice for Christmas.. Her father recently died suddenly and we had a good talk..

So a few busy days. How are you Paws?

I'm off to the library later..

    Hugs 🙂🐕💞

    Hello Hanna,

That must have been wonderful to come home to mown lawns... I'll have to ring my mowing chap to come & mow my paddock & the big verge in the next few weeks to get it down in time for the fire season... hopefully the ground will have dried out enough by then so he won't get bogged with his bigger machine.

The dinosaurs that are our pollies still don't get what needs to be done for climate change... today's announcement was big on hot air & little else... they all have families... even if they don't care about other people I don't get why they aren't doing what will be best for their own families in the future.

I watched the second half of The Big Deal tonight... it was trying to be a bit more optimistic than last week by showing a couple of community wins over big business & the power of lobby groups... over all it was probably informative for people who don't normally follow what is happening in politics beyond the big headlines. You didn't miss much by not watching it.

I hope you found some good reads at the library.

    hugs

    Hi paws

I haven't watched that programme the big deal at all. Today and tomorrow are getting very hot which I never like. I had a lot of errands to run this morning so it was very busy.

Paws have you given any thought on where you might live if you move from your house, or what about aged care at home so you can get help with housework and so forth?

I'm slowly but steadily decluttering here. It feels good!

Hoping I can take Sam out to the river late this afternoon for a paddle. He's tired today.

I went to the nursery and bought a flowering pot plant for my neighbour whose father died and I left it on her porch with a card.

    Hugs 🙂🥀🐕💞🐮🦢🏡

    Hello Hanna,

That was thoughtful of you lass to give your neighbour the plant & card...

I'm not yet old enough to get any aged care services... but truthfully even if I was eligible I don't like strangers in my home so I wouldn't use them... I know I just need to push myself more.

I'm in full sympathy with Sam... it was hot & tiring here too today... now with the increasing cloud cover it is cooler, but muggy... Do keep an eye out for snakes on your walk... they are out & about with the warmer weather.

Have you managed to get the paperwork off to Vision Australia yet?

    Hi Paws and everyone

Yes I hate summer now. It used to be a wonderful time but now it's heatwaves and fires.

I have music today and have to run errands this morning, things are busy lately!

Sam had lovely swims in the river late yesterday.

    Hi paws

They've been talking on the news about the huge cost of houses in Hobart now - Hobart used to have very affordable homes.

I think it's terrible as people on low incomes who don't have parents to help them out are in a terrible situation.

Housing is an essential human need. Why can't we see this?

That's my rant for today! 🏡

    Hello Hanna,

I so agree with you... which is why I think they need to get rid of all the incentives for people to buy homes as investment properties... originally it was meant to increase rental stock for low income users... but it is simply creating more housing problems as many are left empty so they qualify for the tax right downs or only rented out on air bnb etc. We need to think of homes as places to live not goods to make money from.

Lots of thunderstorms all around... Woofa is barking at every bang & some I can't hear... I'm waiting for the power to go off as is usual with storms here...

    I hope music went well...

    Hi Paws

Yes up where I used to live on the coast there was a huge homelessness problem and there were so many houses sitting empty because they were only rented out over Christmas and Easter. It's disgraceful we allow this to happen.

It threatened to storm here all morning but no storm and instead it's gone sunny this afternoon with strong winds and I've got hayfever!

I'm off to visit a friend now, if I can manage to talk in between sneezes!

    Hello Hanna, wave to everyone,

Oh that is wonderful you have made a r/l friend there that you can visit... finally after so long not being able to meet anyone. I do hope it becomes a lasting friendship for you.

The thunderstorms lasted all night, though none went directly overhead... surprisingly for the first time since I moved here I didn't lose power nor did the storms interfere with my satellite tv... but the wind was shockingly strong & very very scary... I wasn't surprised when the weather chap the next morning said if we were in the tropics it would have been called a category one cyclone... I did lose internet (which is via the mobile network) & it only came back this arvo...

Glad you missed the storms there...

    Hi paws and everyone

What a beautiful day we have here today! I've been hanging out the washing.

It wasn't a new friend yesterday it's an old friend who only Iives here part time as she has another house elsewhere.

I haven't got much news.. It's nice to be able to go to the library again and browse. Most people I talk to are pretty wary of the virus still and especially with the regions being opened up to travellers again from tomorrow. We have a lot of virus circulating in town.

What are things like where you are? How are your relatives in the city?

    Just a short post, sorry!

    Hello Hanna,

How ridiculous for housing to say losing your sight isn't an urgent issue... I'm sitting here shaking my head in disbelief/disgust that no one in housing even questioned that decision. Have Vision Australia got back to you yet?... I would hope they would be able to advocate for you with housing to find you something suited to your needs.

You were very brave going into O with all the covid about... how is your area going with city folk coming out your way... with restrictions eased & the long weekend here the chap at the general store said the main highway was chocker with caravans when he went into the nearby big town on Friday...

Very hot here the last 2 days... I went to get milk today & saw lots of trees had come down in the storms we had a few days ago... quite a few across the road that had been cut up to clear the road & just left on the verge... I can see that all timber disappearing into peoples wood piles over the coming weeks.

    Stay cool... hugs

Sorry I'm running so late tonight I'll post properly tomorrow.

I was talking to a lady aged 73 in a wheelchair from a car accident 20 years ago about the Ndis and age discrimination and she told me to look up Disability Doesn't Discriminate. It's worth reading.

Paws I hope you are OK dear lady.

    Will write more tomorrow hugs!

    Hello Hanna, Paws and everyone.....🤗..

Thats not good at all that government housing isn’t being very kind or tending to your needs...Honestly people can be so rude and mean sometimes well most times....Really, sight is very important to everyone and anything that can be done to make life easier and safer shouldn’t even have to be thought about...it should be done top priority.....

O, might be a better town for you if you could get a transfer...they have more amenities and shops around which I think would make it easier for both you and little Sam....plus if I remember their are some nice spots around the river that runs through it for you and Sam to take a picnic.....I think they should have a very good bus run around the neighbourhood areas....

Its raining here right now, as I’m laying on my lounge chatting to you...I find it very peaceful when it rains...

Im so happy that G has become a friend to you, and he liked the DVD you gave him on his birthday...You have a gentle soul and I think that G can see that through his anxiety...

Please take care of yourself dear Hanna...and of course little Sam as well....I gave one of my furs a trim because her fur was nearly touching the ground when she walked...She does look really beautiful with her long fur but it gets to hot for her...I usually trim it beginning of summer and midway through...then for winter I need to brush her daily...Mumma fur baby has long fur as well but it’s very thin not like her daughters fur...

    Enjoy your night everyone...

Love and hugs for you all and your gorgeous fur babies..

    Grandy..

Just catching up on the wonderful thread and like the community of caring you have developed.I donor post much here but I do read.

The price houses even in country towns is ridiculous. I would like to move closer to family but it is so expensive to move .

Hanna so glad you have a friendly neighbour.

Hi quirky!. Lovely to see you here! Thanks for your kind words and you are most welcome here any time!

Yes I have a friend in the city who is a single mum finally hoping to retire next year as she is getting tired, she's raised two great kids in her own in a private rental but once on the pension she can't afford the rent and doesn't know where she can afford to live. It's dreadful.

How are you going these days quirky?

Do come by any time! 🙂

Hi paws and Grandy and everyone

I saw my GP yesterday as a nice woman from Housing (it's good to know there are a few nice people there) rang to say even with my gps medical report I'm losing vision I have only been put on the normal wait list for transfer out of my house and I need more documentation for her to be able to recommend I get priority. Currently my wait could be 5 to 10 years.

My GP wrote another letter saying I would have an injury if I stay in the house and I need priority listing. I showed her photos of the house from my phone. She said the house should be demolished its so bad.

The nice lady left a message for me that she still needs more evidence!

The occupational therapist rang while I was at music and left a message to ring back.

Housing wants a letter from another doctor or the occupational therapist to revommend me to get priority.

    It goes on and on.

I wish I hadn't taken the house. I should have thought through it more. But now I am losing sight I will end up having a bad fall here

    It's dark and has stairs.

I have my car in for a Rego check tomorrow and will ring the occupational therapist back and try to book a time for them to inspect the house. I'm sure they will find it unsafe.

It's incredible even with two medical reports they still won't bump me up the list at my age. I know so many people need homes but I'll be leaving this one free... Although I don't think anyone should live in it.

Wish me luck with the OT!!!

My house is messy and I'll be embarrassed to have an occupational therapist go through it.. Trouble is the house is so cold in the winter you can't stay inside it you have to go out so I don't get housework done. Rosemary said the previous tenants either sat in the hospital foyer to keep warm all day or sat in their car in the driveway with the car heater on and read.

I've been slowly decluttering... But there is more to do.

I suppose it might even help if they see I can't cope with the housework? I can't see drips on the cupboards or floors unless it's very sunny because the house is dark with dark flooring.

    Hello Hanna, wave to everyone

Wow a nice person in housing... I do hope she stays so she can help you...

I don't think you should worry if the house is a mess... the OT needs to see how difficult living in that house is for you or else she won't be able to recommend that you need to move somewhere better suited to your needs... it would be good if she can do the visit next week for you.

Oh lass don't blame yourself for moving there... you weren't given any time to think things over or have a second viewing before you had to say yes or no... it's the system that has let you down in so many ways.

I do hope the rego check goes well...

    Hi Grandy and everyone

Thanks for your kind words. I rang today and the occupational therapist will have a telehralth appointment with me next week before actually coming to the house.

I'm waiting for my car now and Sam and I are at an outdoor Cafe and the nice staff have been giving Sam treats!

I'm thinking of O town as it's pretty but by reputation not very friendly. I have looked at the units there and you'd want to get a sunny one as some get no sunshine at all.

I wanted to go to the library today but it's closed for cleaning as they had a positive covid case last Sunday. I was there on the Saturday so that was close! They'd only just reopened after the lockdown.

My friend G has some problems I won't talk about here but it means some people are very nasty to him. People are so intolerant of people who are a bit different. We had a lovely chat yesterday, he's a kind and gentle soul and used to live where my grandmother lived long ago on the coast which is amazing. It's not a well known place. So that was nice.

I hope my car is OK then I can go and pay the insurance company for the insurance!

    Hugs 🙂💗🐕💐

    Hi paws

Thanks for that. Yes making a decision about a place in one hour is difficult. It's one of the common complaints about public housing, that the pressure causes people to make rushed decisions.

I managed to put together a pedestal fan today and with the loss of depth perception doing up screws etc is really tricky. It won't make the bedroom cool but it moves the air around. The windows here don't seem to let in much air and I often find it stifling at night.

I weakened tonight and broke my diet and had fish and chips from a shop for dinner! Got the car Rego done, greenslip paid. Had coffee at a street Cafe this morning. It's nice to have things open again and people around.

Telehealth with OT Tuesday. Sam goes to groomer in O town Monday.

I enjoyed the cold drizzly weather today. Sam and I both slept badly last night so I hope tonight is better.

Has your new neighbour been around again? How are your relatives in the city?

    Pats to lovely Woofa! 🙂❤️🐕💞🌿🐀🐈🦢☔

Hello Dear Hanna, Paws and everyone...🤗.

Yesterday it rained all day here..heavy at times and I really felt relaxed...I don’t let my fur girls out in the rain, because they are mud magnets and they bring it all inside, so today they are enjoying the sunshine outside...

Good luck with your Telehealth appointment next week...I really hope so much that it will bring a positive outcome for you...

    I

The last time I went to O was over 4 years ago...Silly anxiety won’t let me go...I remember I used to like the different shops their....In town W, their are no clothes shops, shoe shops, bargain shops..just Woolworths, Coles, a couple of butchers and the necessary shops for living....No shops to just browse around...

I think I remember you saying that G is struggling a lot with major anxiety and finds it hard to have conversations with people...I am pleased that G can see the gentle soul you are and is learning to trust you...it might take a long while before he can have a coffee with you...I am sure you are helping him...

I love fish and chips...but it’s to far to travel to get them and by the time I get them home...they will be a cold soggy mess..It’s okay if you had a break from eating more healthy foods...I think something different every so often is okay to eat....I have been snacking on Peri Peri Arnott thin crisps...I love the heat from chillies...

We are still having positive COVID cases in town...A couple in Coles on Friday...I haven’t been out since Tuesday...I might get a test after work on Tuesday...

Well done putting the pedestal fan together...and I’m pleased it helped little Sam get a good sleep last night...I also hope it helps you as well....This time last year it was much hotter then it is now...I hope we get a mild and wet summer this year like the experts have forecasted...

Enjoy your day today everyone and this evening as well...

Thinking of you all with kindness...hugs everyone and fur babies...🧸🤗🤗.

Hi Grandy and Deebi and everyone

It was so nice to see town all opened up yesterday - it was so crowded with people here from the city. Most of the cafes have put up outdoor seating which is safer and nicer in the lovely weather.

We had ice cream and Sam eats the crunchy cone! Had a long chat with an old friend up the coast where I used to live who is feeling very lonely and wishes I was there, but she is a difficult lady at times!

Ran into the other music teacher who has been stuck in the mountains for months due to the lockdowns and it's so nice to see the kids back in school uniform!

The library is open today and tomorrow Sam gets groomed in O town, but I'm a bit worried about driving in the thunderstorms..

The parks here are looking lovely and green.

Sam loves the fan going at night and he's been sleeping like a baby - it's the white noise that helps!

    Hugs 😊🐦☔🌿💗🐮

I'm sorry to hear about your friend needing an op... I hope it went well for her

It sounds like your area is putting lockdown behind it & getting back into being out & about in a big way... lucky for the business's the weather should be getting better for outdoor seating for them...

Lucky Mr Sam getting the ice cream's cone... I'm sure after your trip today he is enjoying finally being clipped... did he score another cone today?

I will keep everything crossed for your telehealth appointment with the OT tomorrow.

    Hello Hanna,

2 hours!!!! that is a very long consult... I'm not surprised you needed a cuppa after that 🙂... it would have been nice if they could have given you a definite time for when they will come out, so that you didn't have this waiting without an end time yet again.

How lovely having your friend to join you on your walk... does she have a dog as well? I'm hoping it was shady where you were walking if it was hot there today... lovely & cool here.

The young neighbour has been here a couple of years on the property to my north... but he has now bought the paddock to my south & west... so he now owns all the land surrounding my place... he has started spraying the blackberries on his land (I had been getting the guy who came to mow my paddock to spray mine) & along the fence lines as he said he would... I'm looking forward to the cows going in my paddock.

    Hi paws and everyone

Crikey what thunderstorms and heavy rain we have had all day! It was impossible to go out in the morning. It's so green here it looks like Ireland. Gorgeous! 🌳

It's been a busy afternoon. The OT is organising for someone to go over the house and I understand it may take a few days to organise someone. I'll check next week if I haven't heard back. I've known my friend for a long time, she's in a bad relationship and yes, it was too hot for me when we went walking, she doesn't seem to feel it.

A great friend from coastal town has moved to an inland town up north because she likes the cold and has a partner there, I know the town and it's been interesting to chat with her today.

That neighbour might want to buy your house if you ever want to sell it Paws...

I'm cold and need dinner so.hugs from me here! 😊🌼🌻🐦🌿
