    Hi Katy,

I'm going to be irregular here for a bit, but I hope things are going OK in WA. It's incredibly quiet here, going down a main street the ships and cafes are open but almost empty of people. A gorgeous day here.

How is Stormy? Maybe the heat is tiring?

There's a great article in the guardian online about the clothes we wear during covid as people are back staying mostly at home again - it seems pyjama pants, thongs and a singlet are the go for everyone. I feel so much better! You get so slack about your appearance when you aren't going anywhere day after day!

Also a scientific article saying covid peters out after about a meter spread, meaning mask wearing and distancing and not staying long in one place indoors is pretty effective. 👍 Virtually impossible to get outdoors unless you are very close to someone.

Good luck with the thesis! Franzen's Crossroads is superb so far he's very funny!

Keep well over there. Oh and in Germany you can but Rats from public vending machines everywhere like you'd buy a can of coke. Brilliant idea, why can't we think of that! None are available here!

    🤔😊🐶🐕💌

    Hi Hanna, all…

A lovely day here too. I tried shopping and our shelves are bare. It depressed me and I’ve gone back to bed. It just all looks a bit grim from here on in. I’m happy my son had his Pfizer and tolerated it well. I see my gp in two weeks. I’ll have to be careful for awhile. I’m glad to hear outside is pretty safe. I’ve ordered some P2 masks as well. And hey, at least the shelves weren’t bare of chocolate!

    Funny about the “covid uniform”.

It’s good of you to let us know you won’t be on here as much. Everyone uses the forum as they need, which is understandable, but good that we won’t worry. So thanks.

Glad your book is enjoyable. I’m happy with my stack but always wish I could afford more lol. I think I have about 80 on my “want to read” list.

    Take care, Katy x

Feel worried about my kitties today. The heat has been pretty relentless the last few days and today they just slothed out and I kept checking to see if they were breathing. They’re both so skinny these days too. Not sure how long they will be able to cope with this heatwave. 10pm and still 31, so not even an overnight break. Poor kitties :(

    Hello Katy,

Oh you poor thing... of course you are worried about them... can you wet them down or would that stress them??... if you lightly freeze wet food (& they will eat it) that can help them stay cool... or freezing individual sardines as treats (as long as you don't mind if they spread sardine juice everywhere)...

Kitties are usually smart enough to find the coolest spot to lay down... unlike our doggies (or maybe that's just mine)...

    Hi Katy,

The heat over there sounds terrible. I wonder if you could use a spray bottle to spray especially their paws and tummies with a fine coolish water spray (not cold), if you don't have one they are in the aisle with detergents in the supermarket. The heat is hard for animals and no cool nights are super exhausting.

I hope the heist ends soon, I think we will get some of it during this next week unfortunately but it isn't reaching your temperatures.

Let us know how you and the cats and Stormy are.

I've just read that WA is staying closed for longer, that's a political move against the federal govt and I think very sensible, I wish nsw hadn't let this rip we were much happier with Gladys running the state.

I hope you manage safely in this weather... 💖💕

    Thanks, Paws, Hanna

Stormy seems to be coping ok. Too hot for walking, but sometimes we can get a swim in in the evenings.

Kitties didn’t want dinner yesterday, unsurprisingly. The girl cat ate this morning, and after I wiped the boy over with a wet flannel he did too. Thanks for that tip. He’s the more fragile one. The girl seems to go find a spot she likes to snooze, but the boy doesn’t. The vet confirmed last visit that he doesn’t have much eyesight, so maybe that’s a factor.

35 already and not even lunch time. I’ll keep up the flannelling today!

Thanks, and yes, woohoo for closed borders! Hugs x

    Hi Katy

Is it the virus that is bothering you? You have an outbreak in your area I think.

It's really strange at first and scary but you get used to it, everyone is in the same situation and everyone gets anxious. After 2 years here now people wear masks indoors and out, it's all become the normal here, lots of people wear better masks now and in the shops some wear face shields and you don't really think about it too much now, but yes it's wierd for a while until you adjust, and you will be surprised how well you manage!

I think it's a help that everyone else is going through the same process.

Happy to talk if it helps! 🤗👍😷🐶

    Hi all

It has been a weird and uncomfortable time. Thank you all for popping in. I’ve been trying to up my self care with eating better and daily exercise. Yesterday I went for a bike ride and ended up at the beach. It was so appealing I decided on a dip in my undies. It was just me and a boy, who gave me a lovely grin as we flopped about enjoying ourselves. Sometimes life really is good.

Graduation is end of month. I declined to attend anyway, but I feel sorry for my fellow graduates who won’t have their families there now due to covid restrictions. I do look forward to getting my official certificate though. I’m going to frame it and cover it in gold stars 😄

Thanks for the huggies, nose boops, kind words, and support. You’re all wonderful, and I hope you’re all managing ok.

Paws, your italicised words made me grin! Where are they from? x

    Hi Katy,

Gosh I'm so sorry to hear about your graduation, I hadn't thought about that!!! How are they doing it? That's such a big moment for you to miss.

Get your degree framed and hang it on the wall, it's hard earned!

I'm glad you are getting to the beach. Doing nice things outdoors in these times is essential for our sanity. I actually declined a move back to coastal town after two days of indecision and a very long talk with a much missed friend there, who said the humidity and heat are now so extreme, and she is older than me and our other friends have moved to other areas, and she said to return with most friends gone and no air conditioning in the public housing (and it can't be installed in the units there), to think hard about it, but the heat/humdity was a deciding factor.... the dog park has friendly folk in it here so maybe as the pandemic eases a bit things will slowly improve, and I'll try to transfer to a better home in the area. At least facilities are good and all nearby.

I don't know how things are going pandemic wise in your area, I hope you are managing OK with all the strange new things that are so tiresome that you have to get accustomed to now... you will be fine and get incredibly used to it...

I hope Stormy and the other furs are keeping well there with you and being good company for you.

Big hug, and I'm so sorry about the disappointment of missing the grad. ceremony, but at least you'll have the degree!!!!

    Hello Katy,

I love the sound of your dip... such fun... I am a bit jealous... you are lucky having such empty beaches to enjoy...

My part quote was from the poem The Walrus & the Carpenter in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass...

I'm glad to see you have thrown out your rubbish avatar... hopefully you managed to toss some of the rubbish thoughts that have been troubling you along with it...

Woofa says "you are very welcome" for thanking him for his nose bops.... though he is a bit miffed that you said we were all wonderful as he thinks that he is all the wonderful anyone needs... he is sitting on my lap as I type this...

    Hugs

    Hi Katy,

You have done an amazing job.

I haven't posted much but I liked checking in to see how you were going. You always had support here, so that has been amazing too.

You should be very proud of yourself. I know it's hard to do. But even if you don't go to the graduation, present the certificate to yourself, shake your own hand, then acknowledge the crowd (a mirror will work because you got you through it all).

    Be proud of yourself.

    All the best

    Jack

    Hi Katy,

I am sorry. What happened to your kitty, how old was she/he? When did it happen? Have you had any company today, someone to be with you/talk with you/comfort you?

Our pets don't live long enough, it's so horrible to lose our dear beloved companions... especially those of us who live alone and they give us such love and non-judgmental company.

I wish I could think of something to help you... but I will pop by and see how you are... I hope you have a friend or someone to turn to there..

You know we all care about you here and we all love our pets so we understand how devastating this is....

    Biggest hugs dear Katy oxoxoxoxo

Sorry i didn’t acknowledge the lovely messages earlier, it’s been a hard day. Jack, it’s nice to see you pop in, I hope you’re going ok yourself. And Grandy thank you for your kind words too.

Poor kitty had not been himself, very lacklustre and sleeping a lot. I guess I thought he’d perk up again. But he was very old and skinny. The vet said too skinny and something must be going on. I decided it was time for him to rest.

Id like to think he’s up there reunited with our old doggy, who he hasn’t seen for many years. And maybe there’s a little sprite girl happily playing with both.

I do worry about my other furs here. Do they wonder where he is. I wish I could tell them so they wouldn’t worry. Sad day.

    Hi Katy

That was a hard decision you had to make. It's wonderful that you did what was kindest for your pet, that is true love.

It's so hard when we lose our beloved pets. I'm sure the other furs wonder where kitty is. It's so hard we can't talk to them, at least not in words.

Big hug for being so brave and caring. I'm truly sorry.

Maybe that little girl is looking after kitty for you. Why not?

    Hello Katy,

The image of Zea playing with kitty & your old dog is so beautiful...

You showed your love for kitty letting him go... your other furs will miss him... they might show it... they might not... but they will become accustomed to him not being there... possibly even before you do.

    Hello

Well the girl cat seems ok after having some kind of weird panic attacks the other day. That was pretty stressful.

Warm yesterday so I took the board out. Storm was cross at me for not taking her, but I knew everywhere would be busy being so warm and people wanting to be outdoors. Difficult even social distancing at the beach I went to!

Im still not vaxxed, so I had to decline catching up with two uni mates. I didn’t want to tell them why, because some people are weird about it, but if you’re not vaxxed you can’t go anywhere. I’m booked in for the 25th if I don’t chicken out, but even that feels far away.

Oh what a weird world we’re in, and everyone else has been dealing with this for a long time. Boy I hope things get better this year.

    Katy

    Hello Katy,

Woofa has offered to gallop over to your place... with a couple of giant pink lamingtons & some raspberry lemonade... he isn't vaccinated either so he will have to swim that bit around WA's border with the goodies balanced on his head... he is practicing his seal noises so he can stealthily come ashore near you without being spotted... the goodies will be disguised as a fish so no-one wonders about a seal carrying lamingtons...

Once off the beach he will galumph with such grace no-one will be suspicious about him being there... you will know he has arrived when you hear "gentle" tapping at your front door (& your house starts shaking with each tap)... he would appreciate it if you move all breakables over head height while he is there... for his safety because for some unknown reason they do have a habit of exploding whenever he passes (rumours that it is his tail or big feet causing it are completely unfounded he promises)

He also has some surprises in his goodie bag... the fish he used as disguise is for kitty... the giant floatie he used to swim with is for Miss Storm... the goodie bag can be opened up to become a wading pool for you & Stormy to splash about in... plus he has saved up lots of his nose bops just for you...

He will also pass on some gentle hugs from me

    Paws
