Advice for seeing a Psychiatrist

MH41
Community Member

Hi people, hope you are doing well,

After a while battling, I've decided I need to see a psychiatrist and was wondering if anyone could advise me on a good one in the Tullamarine / Essendon area in Melbourne, VIC.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks, Matt

Hi Matt,

I am not sure that we are able to provide that kind of information here.

I would like to recommend though that you email the Beyond Blue organisation or look at their web site that has a section under GET SUPPORT titled Find a Professional or ask your Dr for a recommendation.

I'm not sure if you need a DRs referral for a psychiatrist or not.

Hope you find someone who can help you!

Cheers from Dools

Hi Matt, I'm sorry you are facing this difficult decision and not feeling well, but pleased you have contacted the forums.

It's hard to say who is the best psychiatrist because one maybe excellent with one patient but doesn't suit another person.

The same applies to AD's (antidepressants) while one AD helps a person it's not so good with someone else.

You will need to get a referral from your GP to see a psychiatrist, the only time when you don't, is in an emergency at the hospital when you're in there.

Good Luck.

Geoff.

Hi Matt,

It's true that we're not able to recommend anyone specifically, but what I can show you is this site. It allows you to filter psychiatrists by location, expertise and experience -

Hope you're able to find one that's a good fit for you.

Hi Matt,

We all hope you are able to find someone who can help you.

Please know that if you are comfortable to do so, you can chat and share more here about yourself if you may find it helpful. It is definitely your own choice.

We are not professionals of any kind in mental health, a lot of us are people who have lived various conditions.

Wishing you all the best, cheers from Dools
