Changing GP

Does anyone have experience with changing their GP which they arare willing to share?

im not asking for recommendations or specific Dr names or locations.

i don’t have any confidence in my GP. I don’t think that what she is recommending me is a good idea for me and I don’t feel supported or understood.

has anyone else ever felt this way? Did you change GP’s ? Did you find it better?

i realise everyone experiences things differently I’m just looking for some opinions. Thanks everyone.

Hi DannyG

Yes I had a similar experience where I didn’t find my GP to be very helpful or understanding. I asked the mental health clinic if they knew of any GPs who have an interest in mental health issues. They were able to help me with this and I immediately changed. I am much happier now and have a good rapport with my GP. It is so important to find a good GP to trust with your mental health. You can also ring up your current doctors practice and ask reception if any of their doctors have an interest in mental health.

I hope you find a GP suited to your needs. Best of luck

Hey Danny,

I do. I used to see a GP who had been my family doctor for many years but when I was starting to deal with some mental health issues, we just did not connect at all. I would go home feeling much worse (which is not a good sign). I changed to another GP, which was not an easy decision to make (doesn't help if you have anxiety!), but I'm soo glad I did. You won't connect with every GP and that's totally ok.

If you live in the perth metro area, let me know. Would be happy to recommend some good GPs to you. Otherwise, ask around.

Good luck 🙂
