Hi all, I have a addiction to porn and I want to break it. How did people concur their addiction?

Hi Pat, welcome to the forums and thanks for posting your comment.

Can I say that this has been talked about quite frequently and to get you started, if you can type this into the search bar above Husband porn addiction then you can read all the many different comments, but by saying this I don't want to take away anything from what you have said.

There are many questions that I'd like to ask you but if you could expand your comment so we know how to approach your comment as every situation is different.

Look forward to hearing back from you.

    Geoff.

    Hi pat06,

Recently I heard of one person who had it suggested to him that every time he wanted to watch porn he went and did something physical, go for a walk, do some star jumps in the house if it was late at night, or just generally find some other way to distract your mind.

Maybe phoning the Sexual Health line might be beneficial. They may have some suggestions for you.

Do you find you have a certain time of day when you usually look at porn? If so, can you try to make yourself do something else instead.

Maybe if you find some kind of reward for not doing what you don't want to do might be beneficial as well.

We all seek ways to find enjoyment in life, try and consider other options that will provide you with a positive feeling in life.

All the best with that. Cheers from Dools

thanks Dools, its mostly in the mornings or at night before bed. Ive made the decision to leave my laptop out in the loungeroom so the temptation is no longer in my room.

    Hi pat06,

That certainly sounds like a good idea. Do you read at all? Maybe have a book in your bedroom at night to read.

Any addiction can be hard to let go off until we find a more healthy, better, positive or acceptable replacement.

One thing I have learnt, if I go back and do things I desire not to do, I try not to be too hard on myself and tell myself I am not a failure! I can try again to change the choices I don't want in my life any longer.

It can be so easy for us to be down on ourselves and forget to praise ourselves when we do well!

    Cheers again from Dools
