Hi there Sleepy21......it's interesting how different things are between States and yet we are all in the same country...or we were once at least! e.g. I am in Qld and no one up here mentions the Vacc Cert thing at all. It's just not an issue...no one ever asks anyone entering a premises if they are vacced or not, or seem to care that much! Neither I, nor anyone I know is bothered about it at all. just sayin'.....

I have read your reply post to me a few times now. And wondered how to reply back. Its very tricky knowing what I know and not wanting to say anything to promote anymore fear in you or anyone else.

It would not have been easy for you with your son begging you like that I am imagining.

You did what you believed was best and right for yourself and your children. Most likely from a heart of love.

I am sorry you have felt scared. I have as well in all this, but for different reasons.

You love your son, daughter and little miss which is very clear to me and its beautiful.

Hi ...it sounds like it is different. Here in my area , Victoria, some ppl are defensive and aggressive regarding the certificate....I have mine but have had some difficulties accessing it, for issues related to my anxiety etc I someti,es do go out without my phone just to get a break , and in full honesty forgot...it hurt me that I was atta ked for this. I accept not being admitted but the tone and outburst shocked me.

It is new technology for us all.

I have found a solution so hopefully will be better prepared next time...just a rough moment

There is no excuse for staff to yell & scream at anyone for not having a Vac Certificate on them. Even if you kicked up a stink yourself about not being allowed in. If they were to say they would call the police, let them. But really, it's much better if you keep your cool.

Personally, if it is a business that provides goods or services, which other businesses could provide, I'd be not going to that one where I was harassed anymore.

Then, I would want to make a complaint to the business owner, about how the staff treated me.

I wonder how much business these places lose because their staff treats people rudely, in this or any other situation? If there were other people there at the time, how did they react?

Yes, indeed, a little patience & understanding that whenever rules change it takes a while for people to adjust. But that does not explain away or excuse the owners& managers failure to train their staff to act with politeness, respect & courtesy at all times.

Are you keeping a printed copy of your certificate on you, now?

That's shocking to be screamed at. What's wrong with some people? They don't have a right to treat people like that. They shouldn't be in a job where they are dealing with the public.

Thing is.

Don;t think you guys have even had one real and serious lockdown though have you or ? Let alone hard locked down for nearly 300days 6 times. And you could count the cases on one hand , maybe if they'd been locked up so long and were getting 2000 cases a day , they might feel a little different would be might guess.

I would like if Australia was the one country it appears to be on the map, even Google thinks we're a single country. I would like if those of us in Qld remembered that., & to take this as seriously as if we could easily find ourselves in severe crisis, too.

I'm worried enough about the complacency, that I am still staying out of large supermarkets. Even thinking of travelling more than a couple suburbs from my place, is not something I am wanting to do

With my helper, who does the Check In for me, we still use the hand sanitiser & she is able to wear a mask. So far, no one has asked about our vaccine status, & very few have asked about me not wearing a mask. That has not been a huge issue with anyone, but I still feel nervous.

I am listening to Dr Norman Swan's corona cast daily on the Abc and he says even fully vaccinated we can still get very sick with the virus and he said to wear a mask and keep distancing and only to sit outdoors at cafes. He's still not going to a gym.

He said after we've all had a booster shot we should have more immunity.

Those who don't get vaccinated are the main ones in ICU here in Australia and he said they are spreading the virus more, so we do still have to be careful.

These are still tricky times!

I listen to Coronacast too, each morning with my coffee. I keep wondering why this obsession with Dr Swan's gym/no gym? Surely that is a personal decision he has made, based, as he says, on the knowledge & information he has to hand. I think some people are teasing him just a bit.

I've enjoyed listening to him for a long time, the Health Report, in particular. He explains things so well, with the extra added bonus of his voice & accent! 😸

My own PDr has been particularly cautious, but he has spoken to me about going into his place again next year. I'd be travelling again, via taxi, or I've been contemplating, having my helper drive me to & from. My PDr is intensely concerned that the privacy of all patients is maintained. When I went there, & when he would call me, he would lock the front door so no-one could come in from the street, so he has confirmed he would not be comfortable with my helper waiting there while I was in session with him. Even on his porch, it is not comfortable, & patients sometimes will wait out there, too, if they arrive early, & the front door is still locked. I've done that myself. It feels awkward when another patient is there, waiting for my PDr's colleague. So, I don't know, it may be too uncomfortable for other patients if my helper is waiting for me, whether in the small waiting room, or on the porch.

Because of varying attitudes people have, & whatever restrictions will be in place, I'm not assured taxi travel will be reliably available when I need. This is the biggest problem I have with going to see him at his place next year. I have been able to completely avoid the issue while we have sessions using telehealth.

I don't think it's an obsession about Dr Swan going to gym mmMekitty - I just take it that he's not OK going to somewhere where there is a good chance of a lot of virus circulating, so I take that advice.

Sorry I don't know what PDr is. I hope you are able to get taxis OK.

Sorry Hannah, my PDr is a little shorthand I invented for 'Psychiatrist', because I tend to write too much for the character count, so some shortcuts are necessary. I thought this one was rather nice, for him, so it is becoming normal for me to use PDr when I want to mention him in a post. Or any other Psychiatrist, I might refer to in this way, when I am writing 'too' much.

& what's more, out of respect, , I would prefer to use his name, but not only would that not be allowed, he has a name as long as 'Psychiatrist'!

As I sat in the drs office recently I heard the receptionist asking ppl their vaccination status, I'm so glad they did it respectfully and are working through it safely. Ppl were admitted who had on,y one vaccination..,,and I saw a few cases of confusion but the receptionist was dear.

Ur right being screamed at does affect my concept of a business and if I would go back. I'm printing mine out over the weekend but I don't want to be treated again with suspicion. The rules were brought j quick, it's all quick, there are many now afraid of walking into a place and not being quick enough to locate the certificate ....my psych has offered to print it for me which I hope will help.

Tbh even hearing them talk about freedom day....like were all being released....freaks me out.

I'm going to wear my mask still and be cautious for 2 weeks, because I need gentle changes, not dramatic ones

I am struggling with the conflicting information and ideas. People I thought were friends are pushing their ideas so hard on me so I'm scared to express how I feel because it is opposite their ideas. I wouldn't mind if they could just agree to disagree. I am feeling very vulnerable because I can't get the treatment I need for my hand so live with ongoing pain. The last telehealth app't I was given more exercises but these are leaving me in extreme pain for days so I can't do them. Face to face appointments won't resume until case numbers drop significantly Unlikely for months. Similarly my husband can't get treatments he needs in hospital and I live in constant fear of something going wrong and me having to cope without medical help. I know this sounds like I'm exaggerating but this is real. When feeling extremely stressed I rang a help line only to be told I'm depressed and need therapy!!! Not helpful when I'm seeing a psych already. I was also told to stay home and stop all my hsb's therapist's and support workers from seeing him so I can stop worrying about covid. I now feel like a complete idiot as I can't just get better by seeing my psych. It must be my fault therapy isn't working. I also feel like I must be selfish daring to shop for food in person (wearing a mask and at quiet times) Obviously I am a failure as a carer as I can't look after my husband without relying on others to help, I'm left with no option but to just keep going feeling worse all the time

l don't blame Dr Swan one bit , l wouldn't be going anywhere near a gym either.

Sweat everywhere , strenuous breathing all over the place and in an enclosed space , forget it. Especially if a doctor whom would have the acute understanding and knowledge of it all far far more than any of us won't go near them.

100% agree to sleep no way l'll be jumping into crowds anytime soon either l'lll be giving all this so called freedom a mth or two from here yet myself. Actually my area's very tricky like that too bc today the HWY was smothered with caravans and people coming up for the long wkend now , so l'll be laying low on this one to that's for sure.

They're still having the blues festival too this wkend l don't believe it. We've managed to keep it down to just a handful of cases in this whole 18mths, Melb's still on 1600 a day and up here by the 1000s for the wkened now so our guys are going ahead with their blues festival, brilliant, l'm gobsmacked. So much for our handful of cases in 18mths, we're gonna have 100s in a few wks now.

The mind boggles.

I was looking forward to going shopping today but have decided to lay low also. It will be crazy busy I imagine. We had a suspected covid case in little miss' class this week. Thankfully it was negative, but still a worry. Older daughter doing vce exams, don't want to take any risks with her either. Our office 'opens' Wednesday but skeleton staff and door remains locked.

I'm in a regional town and yesterday we had 30 venues where there was covid including all the supermarkets.

Our rural hospital has 4 ventilators.

I'm staying outdoors as much as I can! I'm worried about friends of mine who have underlying medical issues.

The shopping centres here are packed. No thanks!

I think it is a good idea to meet up with friends & family outside ,anywhere where you can maintain a distance between your little group & others.

The local shopping strip is probably not so good because so many other people are going up & down the footpath, passing bay in very close proximity to your group. I like the idea of using local parks, with seperated tables & seating under a little shade, too, if possible. Take a lunch, & have a picnic. I think that would be a very nice way to get together.

I was thinking, it is rather unfortunate, (or was it the reason?) to open up more when a long weekend is happening for Melbourne Cup. I shake my head, & wonder what are they trying to do? Some time or other , restrictions do have to ease, but this weekend? Who's having a Melbourne Cup party? I hope not many,& that they are small & outdoors.

I'm having a hard time with things opening up, Imdo feel particularly lonely at this time.

It was mayhem on the roads and at Eastland yesterday as all shops are allowed to open now in Melbourne from Fri night. People everywhere.

I'm braving the gym tomorrow and I'll be keeping my mask on. It'll be interesting to see how many people will be there. Our vaccination rate will probably be 80% today so I feel relatively safe hearing that.

Hi Sleepy, I think it is very hard for many people now that things are opening up - For me, it is hard when I see everyone around me rejoicing at opening up and experiencing 'freedom' but I don't feel free - I seem to feel more afraid, and this makes me feel very lonely. Maybe that is why you are feeling lonely too? Today the sun is out so it feels a little easier to relax, I hope that you feel a little better too.

I see from various contributions that some folk are still afraid { yep, the media's and government spreading of "fear" certainly worked didn't it?) and can't fully rejoice and enjoy to the hilt these newly found freedoms which were taken from you for so long.

It's interesting and sad to some of us up here in Qld...we thought you'd all be delirious with joy {as you are entitled to be}. Our struggling tourism and small business operators on the Gold Coast just on the border would love to welcome you all back...but our dictatorial Queen Premier Anna won't let you in! The world has gone mad and we have allowed it. What was the point in being double dosed with the vacc...if you're still going to live your life in FEAR..?

Most are delirious with joy, but some of us have agriphibia now after being locked up and are struggling emotionally and with distress. It's all OK. To feel happy or scared. Feelings are all OK.

Hi mefor cats, what are ppl thinking? Rushing out to kmart just on cue.... I also found the roads scary yesterday, weather was bad but traffic was wild at odd times, the masses all going shopping etc. It has a panic feeling, ppl feel impatient to get things after being locked up... I think for some of us, our lives don't have that urgency. It's a it intense but hopefully will calm down, and level, eventually...

Hi Added, I think that's a good point, being around intense rejoicing and then not knowing if I feel the same....my fears of re-entering the rat race, being judged and even taking off my mask and being seen , all this new stuff when I already feel fragile

NSW has been open awhile now and their numbers continue to go down , great sign and hopefully Vic's future too. l know none of us are gonna have a good read of the situation until a few mths in but it's all very encouraging nonetheless so far right.
