I am worried about starting a new medication

I am worried about starting my new medication (prescribed for anxiety and depression). This would be the third medication now that they've trialed me on. I have had it now for 2 months and I haven't even opened the box yet. One of my biggest worries is that it affects alertness and coordination and that was one of the main reasons I had to stop the last medication. I work long days driving a vehicle and my concentration is also being affected by the depression and possible undiagnosed ADHD but I can't get into see a specialist until August. In the meantime my depression seems to be getting worse and it is making it hard to work. I would be grateful to hear from anyone else about their experience with medication.

Hello Smith, thanks for your comment and this has always been a topic people want to talk about.

We worry about the side-effects of any medication, especially AD'S simply because we tend to use Dr. Google who lists all the side-effects that may happen, just to cover themselves, but everyone is different, is someone you know believes that type J AD works wonders for them, it may not be the same for you.

I tried more than half a dozen different AD's until finally, the doctor found the one that agreed with me and have been taking it for over 20 years.

The doctor may have prescribed a small dosage to begin with, and I'm not qualified to say, and then slowly build up the dosage if it agrees with you.

I'm sorry you can't see your specialist until August, but if the side-effects make these comments they may not happen to you and you won't know until you take the AD.

Again this is only a suggestion and not advice.

Best wishes.

Geoff.

Hi Smith,

I hope since your post you've been able to decide which way to go with your new medication. I am still on the first medication I was prescribed for anxiety 7 months ago - an antidepressant - and in learning more recently about my condition have realized what it has/hasn't done for me.

Pros - less impulsive/emotionally reactive, less rage and anger at myself, more acceptance and ability to stop and observe my behavior

Cons - dry mouth especially at night, and like you trouble concentrating and alertness

At the moment, the pros outweigh the cons so I am trying to take my meds at night to see how this helps.

Hoping things get a little easier for you day by day - Bluey
