    Hi

I’m really just sad a lot of the time and I think I have hit my breaking point. Being a dude it’s hard to talk to my work mates about how I’m feeling. I haven’t been right since my dad died 2 years ago and I have been struggling with that. It’s coming up to his death anniversary. I kinda feel like an idiot writing this sorry guys.

    Hi Grego,

Welcome to our friendly online community. We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. We understand that this must be really difficult, especially if you don't feel that you're able to talk to anyone in your life about what you're feeling and experiencing. Please know that you don't have to go through this alone.

It's a great first step to reach out here for some support. It can take a lot of courgae to bear your feelings, and we think that you're really strong for doing so. You may want to consider speaking to a counsellor about what you're going through. You can visit your GP to get a referral to a mental health professional, but for short-term counselling in the meantime, you can get in contact with MensLine. MensLine Australia is a free 24/7 telephone and online counselling service for men with emotional health and relationship concerns. You can contact them on 1300 78 99 78 or https://mensline.org.au/

Another option is Griefline (1300 845 745) if you feel that this is more suitable for you. GriefLine provides counselling support services free of charge to individuals who are experiencing loss and grief.

You might also be interested in taking a look at our page “Grief and Loss” - https://www.beyondblue.org.au/the-facts/grief-and-loss

Thanks again for reaching out here Grego. Hopefully a few of our community members will be by over the next few days to welcome you.

I am glad you reached out and introduced yourself. grief is so hard and so personal so we tend to experience it differently.
My dad died 13 years ago and I miss him every day.
Have you ever been to see a counsellor about your grief.
    Thanks for your post.

Hi and welcome to beyond blue.

Firstly you are certainly not an idiot. When it comes to grief and loss we all react differently. And your reaction is right for you.

It can be hard for anyone to talk to their mates - not sure of what reaction you might get. On the other hand people also talk to me about what they can do for their friends son or ...

While you might feel you cannot talk to your mates you can say what you want safe in the knowledge you not be judged. If later on you feel like getting professional help, that is ok. To be vulnerable takes courage and you have shown that here. I hope to hear more of your story.

    Tim
