Working in perinatal mental health

A key focus of beyondblue's work during the National Perinatal Depression Initiative (NPDI) was to support and advise health professionals on best practice surrounding the prevention, detection, treatment and management of depression and anxiety in the perinatal period. This work was informed by beyondblue’s Perinatal Clinical Practice Guidelines endorsed by the National health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in May 2011.

beyondblue’s perinatal health professional activities have transitioned to the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE), with the October 2017 release of the revised clinical guidelines Effective mental health care in the perinatal period: Australian Clinical Practice Guidelines.

beyondblue will continue to provide a range of resources for expectant and new parents that can support health professionals in their work with families in the perinatal period:

Our dedicated Healthy Families website also contains information, tools and resources for expectant and new parents.
