The big blue bus visited the Loddon Mallee Murray region in May 2015.
First stop was Swan Hill on Wednesday 6 May, where the National Roadshow team set up at Coles for a free community barbecue. Many shoppers stopped by for a chat and a sausage in bread, and to pick up free Beyond Blue materials about depression, anxiety and staying well.
The following morning, the bus headed to Wedderburn for a free morning tea in High Street before travelling to nearby Inglewood to provide the opportunity for locals to stop by the bus for a chat too. That afternoon, the team visited students at Marist College Bendigo to talk about mental health and the importance of looking out for each other.
It was another busy day on Friday 8 May as the team made an early morning visit to the Bendigo Hospital construction site to chat with workers. Free muffins and mental health conversations were on the menu, with dozens of workers stopping by to check out the bus and the free info on offer.
The bus then headed to Lansell Square shopping centre at Kangaroo Flat for a few hours before visiting Catholic College Bendigo’s La Valla campus to speak with students about the importance of looking after their mental health.
The team arrived in Kyabram on Saturday 9 May, setting up in Allan Street for a couple of hours before attending the Goulburn Valley Football League clash between the Kyabram Bombers and Benalla Saints at Kyabram Recreation Reserve. State Member for Murray Plains and Leader of The Nationals The Hon. Peter Walsh stopped by the bus at the footy to chat with the team and show his support.
On Monday 11 May, the bus rolled into Echuca for a free community barbecue cooked up by the Echuca Moama Men’s Shed. Dozens of people came down to the gardens near Echuca Port to find out more about Beyond Blue and the support available for depression and anxiety. The bus then headed to Rochester Railway Station that afternoon for a quick stop.
The National Roadshow returned to the region later in May, with a free community barbecue in Heathcote on Tuesday 26 May out the front of the RSL Hall. The following morning, Wednesday 27 May, a free community breakfast was held at Victory Park in Castlemaine.
Thanks to all those who gave Beyond Blue such a warm welcome across the region. Thanks also to Medibank Community Fund for their support.
