Join us and help make a real difference in mental health. When you volunteer with Beyond Blue, you’ll represent us at community events, conferences, expos, festivals and local sports days.
It’s an enjoyable way to support mental health awareness and help more people in Australia find mental health support earlier and more easily.
Mariam is a Sydney based Beyond Blue Volunteer who joined the program in 2024. Mariam’s first event was a 4:30am wake up to attend Sydney Marathon in September 2024.
“I wanted to give back somehow and help spread their mission so more and more people can benefit just like I did. After my first time volunteering, I decided to just keep coming back because of how rewarding and also FUN it felt each time.”
Mariam has shared her own battle with mental health and understands the importance of having access to professional support.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be in an environment where I felt safe to reach out for help, without a dooming fear of judgement or stigma.
This would never have been possible if not for organisations such as Beyond Blue that work hard to reduce the stigma around mental health, making it safe and more normalised to have conversations around it.”
Today, Mariam understands the importance of looking after her own mental health.
“I recommend treating yourself as you would a loved one, it’s really helped me be kinder to myself. Being gentle, forgiving, and letting yourself take a break when things get overwhelming, is very important for your wellbeing now and in the long run.”
Anyone aged 16 years and over can volunteer with Beyond Blue, and people choose to volunteer for many reasons.
You might want to connect with others, share your lived experience, give back to the community, or build new skills and confidence in a mental health volunteering role.
Volunteering with Beyond Blue can be a meaningful way to support mental health awareness in Australia, meet likeminded people and feel part of something bigger through our charity volunteer programs.
I'd say to just go for it!
The fact that you WANT to be of help is enough of a sign that you're for this.
Naomi, Beyond Blue Event Volunteer
Every year, Beyond Blue attends many community events to spark conversations, reduce stigma, and show people we’re here to help.
These events are a great way to explore community mental health volunteer opportunities that make a real difference.
Our volunteer roles pop up across Australia throughout the year and events might include sporting and challenge events, festivals, expos and community gatherings.
There are no set days or hours, so it’s easy to fit volunteering around work, study or family life.
To volunteer with Beyond Blue, you’ll need to be at least 16 years old, and you’ll need to have a valid Working with Children Check, or equivalent, for your state or territory or be willing to get one. This helps keep our events safe and welcoming for everyone.
You’ll also need to complete the Beyond Blue Event Volunteer Registration and Induction Form, which prepares you for supporting mental health awareness at community events across Australia.
These simple steps make sure you’re ready, confident and equipped to represent Beyond Blue in your volunteering role.
22 May
Coastrek Mornington Peninsula is happening, Friday 22nd May and we would love for you to join the volunteer squad.
You will be essential to ensuring trekkers feel encouraged and safe throughout their 50km, 30km and 20km journey – all while raising much needed funds and awareness for mental health.
Naomi is a Melbourne based volunteer who signed up with Beyond Blue in 2022. Since then, Naomi has volunteered at events ranging from the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, Run Melbourne and the AFL Beyond Blue Cup.
“I was motivated to sign up as a Beyond Blue volunteer as a way to give back. I had recently used Beyond Blue services and wanted an opportunity to show my appreciation and gratitude for all of the support and guidance they provided me during a really difficult time.”
From waking up at 5am on a cold Sunday in July to support Beyond Blue runners at Run Melbourne, to packing thousands of show bags at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, Naomi keeps coming back to volunteer at Beyond Blue.
“Mental health is just as important as your physical health, although it is harder for others to see when you are struggling … When you are struggling with your mental health, most of the time it is impossible to see from the outside. You may still be going to work, having a laugh with your friends, and always having a smile on your face; all while it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulders.
“Everyone, at some point in their life will have a difficult time with their mental health or know someone who is. Knowing that, is why I choose to come back as a volunteer at Beyond Blue time and time again."
