Managing holiday spending stress

Christmas can be tough when money’s tight.

And if you’re feeling pressure to spend more than you should, know you’re not alone.

If money worries are weighing heavy, try these recognised tips.

First set a budget. And do your best to stick to it. Make a list of what you need and go over it again – just to make sure you can actually afford it.

Then once you start shopping, keep track of your spending as you go.

Getting creative when it comes to gifts, decorations and meals can also really help.

If you’ve got kids, think about the moments you can share and the fun you can have with friends and family.

And don’t be afraid to suggest things like Kris Kringle or pooling together for presents.

Money concerns are never easy – and particularly at this time of year. But try and remember, it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. And lots of people are feeling the same way right now.

Sometimes, just talking with someone you trust, a family member or friend, can help.

And remember, if you need a bit more support, we’re here for you day and night.

"I felt like I’d been believed for the first time... it was really refreshing to have that support from someone, especially an actual professional.

It was nice to finally feel like I wasn’t alone."
