Gift in your will

Making a bequest, or gift in your will, is an enduring way to help beyondblue reduce the impact of depression, anxiety and suicide in Australia.

If you wish to support beyondblue through a bequest, we recommend that you obtain independent legal advice before making or modifying your will to ensure accurate wording that validly records your wishes.

Your bequest will support the ongoing development and delivery of innovative, evidence-based programs, services, information resources and campaigns that will:

  1. support people to protect their mental health and to recover when they are unwell
  2. reduce people’s experiences of stigma and discrimination
  3. improve people’s opportunities to get effective support and services at the right time.

How to make a bequest to beyondblue

Obtain independent legal advice to discuss the two ways that you can make a gift in your will:

  1. through leaving beyondblue a specific amount of money
  2. through leaving beyondblue a share of your estate (in other words, a share of what is left of your estate after payment of your debts and expenses and any other specific gifts you have made).

Bequests to support beyondblue's general work

beyondblue operates through an Australian public company limited by guarantee known as Beyond Blue Limited (ACN 093 865 840). The members of Beyond Blue Limited are each of the State, Territory and Commonwealth governments. Beyond Blue Limited is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient Status 1 by the Australian Taxation Office.

Alex's story

Alex

Alex has lived with depression for most of his adult life. Now in his fifties and with three grown children, he is keen to use his experiences to help others. He is also keen to support the future of beyondblue, which is why he has included the charity in his will.

“It demonstrates my appreciation of their work and my commitment to not only my mental health but also so many others.

The work that is done by beyondblue – the breaking down of barriers, the promotion of knowledge of this awful condition and the commitment to healing of us is immense. It is beyondblue along with my dear psychiatrist and psychologist that have saved my life.

I have an emotional attachment to beyondblue. My will reflects that. That's my gratitude to them that they assisted me in my isolation. It is the tremendous feeling of now not being alone. I am not alone. I don't need to be ashamed. There are people who care and also people who do truly understand.”
