Beyond Blue statement on The Forgotten Children report

16 February 2015

Beyond Blue supports the recommendations of the Australian Human Rights Commission’s The Forgotten Children report and commends the Commission.

The findings and recommendations are supported by Beyond Blue Chairman Jeff Kennett, his fellow Board Directors and the Beyond Blue team.

There is a significant body of evidence that shows the detrimental effects of detention on the psychological wellbeing of all detainees, including children. Beyond Blue was pleased to see the AHRC’s data that shows the significant decline in the number of children currently in detention and we support the release of all children into the community.

We hope that the children released into the community are being looked after and getting appropriate help and support .

We also hope that all people held in detention are receiving good quality mental health and suicide prevention support.
