Last week Lindt Australia announced that it will reopen its Martin Place café next month following the tragic events of December.
Beyond Blue would like to take this opportunity to tell the community that donations to the Tori Johnson memorial fund have so far raised more than $334,000 to help our work.
This includes significant donations from Lindt Australia and the Lindt family around the world, the NSW Government, the City of Sydney and Westpac.
It also includes hundreds of donations from ordinary Australians and their families.
Some gave to the fund instead of buying Christmas or birthday presents. Others organised office whiparounds or raffles to raise money at work.
Just as importantly, the heartfelt messages of support and solidarity that accompanied the donations showed the best in humanity.
Beyond Blue is humbled and honoured to be entrusted by Tori's partner and family and the community to be the custodian of these funds.
We will ensure they are used to help people who are struggling with depression, anxiety or suicidal thoughts.
For example, the Beyond Blue Support Service responded to 390 calls, webchats and emails every day in the last three months of 2014.
The Beyond Blue National Roadshow is travelling around Australia raising awareness about depression, anxiety and suicide prevention.
The Heads Up initiative is working with Australian business and workers to build mentally healthy workplaces.
To everyone who donated: thank you.
By donating in memory of a man most of you never met, you have offered hope and kindness at a time when it is needed most.
Trained mental health professionals are available 24/7 via the Beyond Blue Support Service on 1300 22 4636, via web chat from 3pm to midnight every night at www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support or via email.
