There are many people across Australia who continually challenge themselves, both physically and mentally, to raise awareness of depression and anxiety and funds for Beyond Blue.
Fun runs and other endurance events are popular ways for Beyond Blue fundraisers to push themselves to help support people experiencing depression and anxiety, and their families.
This year, Beyond Blue has partnered with two fun runs, Run Melbourne (July 26) and City2Surf in Sydney (August 9), to offer Champion Entry to participants who would like to support Beyond Blue.
Champion entrants receive free entry to the event and a guaranteed start position, if they commit to raising $1000 for Beyond Blue.
For those interested in an international challenge, Beyond Blue has also partnered with the organisation Inspired Adventures, who are offering those who can afford to pay for the experience, the opportunity to trek along the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea in April 2016 to raise funds for Beyond Blue.
Dedicated long-distance runners who have plans to travel overseas can also raise funds to support Beyond Blue by taking part in the New York, Paris and London Marathons through Inspired Adventures.
Beyond Blue CEO Georgie Harman said whichever way people choose to raise awareness of depression and anxiety and support Beyond Blue, all efforts are greatly appreciated. We value equally the generosity of a child emptying the contents of a piggy bank, the amazing feats of endurance and significant corporate donations.
“These generous donations help us to continue our important work creating an Australian community that understands depression and anxiety and feels empowered to seek support when needed, including by contacting our Support Service by phone 24/7 on 1300 22 4636 or via web chat (3PM-midnight AEST) or email at www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support,” she said.
“We’re often amazed at the lengths Beyond Blue fundraisers go to, but whether funds are raised through a small community event or an epic adventure, it all helps people with depression and anxiety.
“By speaking openly about these conditions, Beyond Blue fundraisers also help break down the associated stigma, which can contribute to preventing people from seeking help.”
