Sydney FC wins Beyond Blue Cup against Melbourne Victory

7 November 2016

Beyond Blue again partnered with Sydney FC as it battled Melbourne Victory on Saturday November 5, and claimed a 2-1 win in the Beyond Blue Hyundai A-League Cup at Allianz Stadium.

Sydney FC and Beyond Blue established the annual match six years ago to raise funds and awareness of depression, anxiety and suicide.

Before last Saturday's game, Sydney FC was keen to bring the trophy back to the harbour city, as Victory won the match in 2015.

Ahead of the game, Sydney FC’s Beyond Blue spokesperson and defender Alex Wilkinson said the game was "a fantastic initiative".

“There will be a great match to go with it,” Wilkinson said.

“Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory are two giants of the Hyundai A-League and they have a game which always produces excitement and entertainment.

“But the key message we’re trying to get across to fans is that when it comes to mental health, we’re all on the same team. It’ll be a fabulous evening on Saturday and we want to regain the trophy.”

Beyond Blue Ambassadors Allan Sparkes and Dan Hunt (a former NRL player for George Illawarra Dragons) will address the crowd at Allianz Stadium before the game.

It will be Hunt’s first public appearance on behalf of Beyond Blue, after already sharing his story with the Sky Blues during a private Beyond Blue Bash day at the club’s training ground.

Sydney FC corporate partners, members and fans are encouraged to hold their own Beyond Blue Bash events in a fun and meaningful way to support Beyond Blue's work.

The club will provide fans the chance to win inner-sanctum\ prizes if they host their own Beyond Blue Bash event.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 7.50pm at Allianz Stadium, with gates opening at 6.50pm. Members can use club cards and tickets are available to purchase from Ticketek
