Insurers rely on vague and flimsy information to assess mental health claims, Beyond Blue CEO Georgie Harman recently told a Radio National journalist in a pre-recorded interview to air on Sunday.
On Radio National’s Background Briefing, airing 8am on Sunday November 27, Ms Harman will explain how Australians with mental health conditions can face discrimination.
Ms Harman again urges insurers to show evidence that people with mental health conditions who apply for insurance products are given individualised and fair assessments.
The program will also feature Ella Ingram, the 22-year-old student whose trail-blazing legal battle in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal VCAT, proved global insurer QBE had discriminated against her.
Ella’s hallmark win earned her a nomination for the Young People’s Human Rights Medal 2016 at the Human Rights Awards on December 9.
Listen to the recording of the Background Briefing program now. It originally aired on Radio National at 8am on Sunday 27 November, and repeated at 9pm, Tuesday 29 November.
