I agree with you Hanna, I try to avoid that stuff. But thank you for addressing it with the mods. Take care.

    Hello everyone,

Thank you for your patience tonight,
As mentioned to Hanna privately, we take feedback of this nature very seriously and encourage all of you to express your concerns so we have the best understanding of what we can do to improve. We’ve removed content from the coronavirus thread we believe may be potentially harmful and will review the thread once more at a later date. Again, we urge you all to report any content you find troubling.

Hey Sleepy21, Matchy69 and blondguy, there’s a thread which goes into detail about why we don’t allow the use of profile pictures that depict a member's face, you can find it here: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/welcome-and-orientation/changes-to-moderation-policies-no-more-face-pics-in-profile-images

Our main reasoning is that the beyondblue forums are an anonymous space where we discourage the sharing of any information that may personally identify you to someone reading.

Hey Tayla. thanks for your suggestion, it might be one worth reconsidering. Although, on an anonymous forum like this, your display name is your key means of identification and therefore,  frequent changes of a name can be confusing for the community when trying to support you.  Unfortunately, t's the nature of an online, anonymous space like this that members will come and go, and sometimes you won't have closure on how someone is doing. We understand this can be upsetting, so we've prepared this thread to discuss issues of looking after ourselves while supporting others

Thanks Tayla. I felt I had to speak out about some posts there that I felt could encourage dangerous behaviour. Take care of yourself xx

I am wondering if it is possible for a thread to be created specifically for daughters of Narcissistic mothers? It is so extremely common and it is really hard to find support online. I know I am feeling utterly alone in trying to cope and deal with this.

like, do you mean a whole board or just a thread? you don't need a mods permission to write threads.

    Hi 2quik

I think I know what you mean .....a dedicated subject header re 'Daughters of Narcissistic mothers' ? I respect and understand where you are coming from (from my own experience)....yet best left to someone creating their own individual thread topic on the matter

I hope that is somewhat helpful 2quik

    my kindest always

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

I don't think I will create one just yet myself. I am in extremely early phases of stage one healing. No real great dent at this point. Thanks for replying.

Maybe add a option to where members are able to communicate privately with each other.

I just replied to a response offering contact details to a registered health care professional but not really keen on putting their information out in the public eye.

Not sure if this is an option already but have a search/filter option to find threads similar to yours by putting in keywords so there’s not a lot of double ups/repeats

Maybe if you click on a user you could see link to their threads etc? Or each user could have a profile which says eg how long they've been here, and their different threads. I find it very twisted and challenging to sort through all the threads and follow someones journey

    Hey Eight,
I believe we already have this feature. If you look above the textbox there is an S with a line through it and it does this!

    Hey Eight,
Yes, this is on desktop. Hm agreed, it might be because you're on mobile!
    ~sometimes~  <s>this works</s>
If not, it might be a handy feature to add for mobile.

    Hey Sophie_M

Unfortunately there isnt a strike through or underline function on the forums.....not that I'd really use either come to think of it...I know the moderators dashboard does though

    Happy Easter

    Hey Paul and Sleepy,
That is so strange! maybe we could work on adding shortcuts for an underline or strikethrough then. Thanks for your input everyone.

    Hi guys,

New to BB and the forums and loving them. I have noticed though that none of the posts have a time stamp to indicate when they were generated, only the date. I'm ex Police and TDP (Time, Date, Place) was drummed into us when creating records. I find it strange that we wouldn't want to know how long a post has been sitting unanswered for example, or when a post was responded to.

    Just a thought

    Rumple :0)

    Rumples,

    Welcome to the forum.

You may notice on My threads and new posts and in all sections, the time of the last post is listed.

know you are saying that not every post has a time. I am not sure if that is possible or would be helpful. It is an interesting question.

Hi I was wondering if it would be allowed to put up as my profile picture for ANZAC day my grandfather in his WW1 uniform taken in 1915 before he went and fought at Gallipoli.

hi Rumples, I wander if the timestamp is deliberately not used here?
It is a shame in terms of not being able to see how long a post has been unanswered,

But I can see advantages to there not being timestamps as well

People may want to post at odd times (insomniacs like me) and not have it recorder as such. Not sure

I really object to ageist comments being permitted on the coronavirus thread. I have two very elderly friends I care for very much and I find ageist comments offensive. They are no different to racist comments or comments about people of different religions etc. I believe BB should be careful that this type of comment is not permitted.

    Hi Hanna

Thankyou for mentioning this and I trust the matter has been dealt with. This is a complex and one of the fastest rotating threads I have seen since I joined...Im not a moderator...just a volunteer and the coronavirus thread topic is a difficult thread to keep up with considering the pandemic we are all going through

Just a note....I wrote a thread about the quality of aged care mental health a while ago and we had many health professionals and members reply..It was difficult to maintain as we dont have many elderly members on the forums which didnt help the thread topic..unfortunately

    my kindest always Hanna

    Hi Hanna3,

We too object to and remove discriminatory language from our forums.

It is really important to remember that text is not a perfect medium of communication especially for things like tone of voice. This in turn can lead to misunderstandings.

Please be aware that just as the intent of your post may be misunderstood by other readers so too may you misunderstand others' intentions when reading their posts.

This is why we ask all forums participants to please keep in mind the overarching values that guide our community rules (https://www.beyondblue.org.au/get-support/online-forums/community-rules). These five values are: support, respect, empowerment, safety and friendliness.

These rules have been designed in the best interest of the whole of our valued online forums community. If everyone keeps these in mind, misunderstandings should be kept to a minimum.

If you do see anything you think breaches these community rules then please report it to moderators by hitting "Report Post" in the top right corner of each post. If you do that, moderators will review the post immediately.

Remember that references to moderation in the forums is cause for them to be edited or removed as they are off topic and tend to derail conversations designed to help people with their mental wellbeing. Should you wish to query a moderation decision, please get in touch with us privately via email and we will respond on the next business day. Please note also, that while always open to review, moderators' decisions are final.

Hi Mark I have had that error come up every time I've tried to add a profile pic.
I've done it from a computer with that result.
Thought it was just me. Thanks for bringing it up as it is a bit confusing
