New Mental Health First Aid guidelines for workplaces

24 March 2016

Mental Health First Aid Australia in collaboration with researchers from the University of Melbourne, Deakin University and University of Tasmania have developed international guidelines for English-speaking countries on how to provide mental health first aid to a co-worker or an employee.

The guidelines are based on the expert consensus of panels of consumers, managers and workplace mental health professionals from English-speaking countries.

The guidelines provide instruction on when and how to approach a co-worker who a person is concerned about, listening and communicating non-judgmentally, providing support and information, and how to respond in crisis situations. There are additional strategies for people to consider if they are the person’s manager.

The guidelines are free to download from https://mhfa.com.au/resources/mental-health-first-aid-guidelines
