Activity Detail

The Australia and New Zealand Policing Advisory Agency (ANZPAA) is a joint initiative of Australian and New Zealand Police Commissioners (ANZPAA’s Board).

In the role of forecaster, advisor and facilitator, ANZPAA proactively partners with police agencies to identify opportunities for improved performance that results in better community safety outcomes in Australia and New Zealand.

ANZPAA is currently developing a Mental Health Guide to assist police officers when responding to members of the public experiencing poor mental health or a mental health crisis. The guide will also be supported by existing jurisdictional mental health training that is currently being delivered to police.

The mental health guide is expected to include content such as:

  • behavioural indicators
  • response, engagement and communication strategies
  • de-escalation techniques
  • prompts around referral practices

How Blue Voices can help

To help develop this guide ANZPAA are looking for feedback from people who have had interactions with police when they’ve been experiencing poor mental health or a mental health crisis.

This feedback can be given through an interview with ANZPAA and/or by taking part in a Q&A session as part of a Working Group.

Activity Results

Feedback for the ANZPAA mental health guide are now closed. If you'd like more information on this project please contact the Blue Voices team.
