About NewAccess for Small Business Owners

NewAccess  for Small Business Owners is a free coaching program, designed to provide accessible, quality services for small business owners finding it hard to manage stress.  

The program uses Low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and aims to help people break the cycle of negative or unhelpful thoughts. 


We know there are many factors that influence the mental health of small business.  We also know that Small Business Owners are incredibly independent and will often prioritise their business over their own mental health.

Pre-pandemic, small business owners were managing high levels of distress. Now in the midst of the pandemic we see two thirds of Australia’s small business owners report the pandemic has negatively affected their mental health. In a sector that is often information rich and service poor, NewAccess for Small Business Owners has a crucial role to play. 

This program utilises the general NewAccess program model which is underpinned by 10+ years of research and development including a three-year trial in Australia and independent evaluation. Click here to read more about the general community program.

NewAccess Coaches

Coaches of the NewAccess for Small Business Owners program all have a small business background, allowing them to better understand the challenges small business owners may face.  

They are trained in Low-intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy by CBT Institute to help develop and guide participants through their tailored program.  

Low-intensity Cognitive Based Therapy is a structured, evidence based psychological treatment. Put simply, it allows us to recognise the way we think, act and feel.  

NewAccess for Small Business Owner coaches work alongside participants on a problem statement. Together they will develop an understanding of what is causing distress and then work on practical tools and strategies that can be used in day to day life.

Coaches undertake twelve months of training, starting with a six-week intensive that moves to practical learning. This involves managing clients and an ongoing program under specialist clinical supervision.
