Mental Health Mission: Week 3
We hope you're learning more about yourself, and enjoying exploring different strategies to look after your mental health and wellbeing.
Week 3: Let's CONNECT
Having a sense of connection can help you feel safe, grounded and valued. Think about how you invest in relationships with others, nature, spirituality, or something else entirely. Being connected means different things to different people!
This week your first challenge is to connect.
You can choose from the two missons below!
Mission: Community
Being part of a community helps us understand ourselves and others better. It allows us the opportunity to learn new perspectives, feel empowered and supported by others, and build meaningful relationships.
- Host a group of your friends or family and enjoy a meal together
- Contact a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while and organise to meet up
- Volunteer at Beyond Blue or get involved in community events for a cause that matters to you
- Attend a group fitness class
- Attend a creative class or workshop
- Attend a meetup for people of similar interests as you, like a book club or video gaming community!
- Connect with our online peer support community. Share your lived experience with our welcoming peer support community at the Beyond Blue Forums.
- Visit a participating Australia Post store to collect your free 'Connection Postcard' and write a friend or loved one a surprise postcard!
Mission: Nature
- Find a body of water. Water can have a calming affect on us; the rhythmic pattern of waves or soothing sound of a waterfall can promote relaxation and decrease feelings of anxiety.
- Escape to the outdoors for a few days. Camping offers a refreshing break from the hectic pace of daily life, allowing you to reconnect with nature and unwind.
- Practise deep listening and quiet stillness through the practice of Dadirri. Join Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmer-Bauman in a special episode of our Not Alone podcast to learn about Dadirri and the importance of connecting with country.
- Connect with the land by finding out whose First Nations Country you're on. Spend time in nature and embrace the land as a source of emotional wellbeing and escape from daily stress.
- If you can’t spend time outdoors, bring nature to you! Indoor plants are a great way to bring some life into the home.
